@chee-hoo-tioh how many of these gps problems do you have? how long do you wait with starting the activity after satellites have been locked?

@wmichi it might depend on the sensor. I used to use the Suunto HR belt and now I use the Wahoo HR and cadence sensors, and I find that if I start the exercise, even with the sensors not ready, eventually (after 20-30 s), they show up. This might be because some sensors stay “visible” for BT connection only for a limited time (30 - 60 s), and if they are not connected they stop being visible.

@christian-schmitt I think there isn’t one. But you can choose the regular mode and edit the distance afterwards, right? I mean, distance = flow velocity* time. Sure, it may be annoying, but as a workaround…

there seems to be an issue when using HR belt in the water. But I’ve only tried once so far. @Piotr-Grygiel if OHR from the watch works for you, I would recommend using it over the more cumbersome HR belt unless there’s a specific reason why you choose to use the belt?

@brad_olwin true, but as I already mentioned, I don’t really have a fixed schedule. I might want to do a specific one today and another one in 10 days or so. It’s just whatever I feel like doing XD For the moment I found a loophole though: 3 intervals.icu workouts can be pinned at once and the fourth workout is the running drills which stays in the watch anyways. So I’m happy.

@skydancer Suunto is aware of this issue. It has been noted and I suspect a fix for this will come. ATM I would believe the watch.

@freeheeler Also, as a follow up to what @freeheeler is saying, it is a good practice to set the watch to the exercise (the screen with the START button) before you actually start the activity. The watch will have the time to lock on the GPS, but also adjust the altitude. Another idea, before you start your activity, look at the watch if it changed the display. The activity display is usually so different from the watch face that you don’t need to look hard at it; just a glance and you know.

@inkognito I also vote for this indicator. Use this feature often when a cycle and using the wahoo element bolt

The US GPS system is being updated so it was not put in place and simply left. New and better satellites are used, it may be the most complete and that may be the reason for GPS as the default. In my testing I see no difference with any added satellite systems on Suunto or Garmin with multi band during normal use. The only time multi band mattered on the Garmin was the example I gave below. Garmin was able to get better tracks in the slot canyon but that comes at a steep cost in battery life.

@r-s-0 yes, but one can diverge from the original route for a multitude of reasons: weather conditions, path is destroyed/forbidden, etc.

I’d like this too but realise that it affects battery life/drain. If you’re on a watchface that shows the second hand you can press a button and they should show for a short time before they power off again

@ralf-muri I think this is related not just the Suunto 9, I experience similar issues occasionally with my Ambit3. However, for me the high HR value from begining of the activity is indicating bad contact (didn’t wet enough the strap) or bad battery. As for dash instead of HR value, that could be bluetooth connection issue and many thing can cause it: clothing material, sweat or again low battery level. Sometimes pairing the sensor again with the watch helps, at least in my experience. Hope one day Suunto app will be able to display battery level of the HR sensor.

@ingiliz as @isazi mentioned, try the same activity without the HR chest strap, just OHR on your wrist. But overall it seems to be a bit different issue than I’ve had. If it works with OHR, then most probably you just need a new strap and don’t have to reset the watch. Just my two cents.

@dmytro said in Very wrong counting of the steps in s9b: @brad_olwin I don’t care either. However, I find this strategy curious at the slightest. I have a very specific programming experience, but from my perspective it shouldn’t be that time consuming to implement the same algo on all watches, given that libraries for sensors and device specific functions are most probably already written. So it might (!) be as easy as copy/paste. On thing is to say we don’t want to research this direction because it’s irrelevant, the other is to stubbornly ignore even it would barely cost any effort (once again, I might underestimate the effort needed). All in all, it’s suunto’s decision, not mine. 100% agree, I do not know why this is. I also do not understand the decision but it may have its roots in the hardware.
