@rhustox Excellent I vote for you … Not totally sure people will catch what better use of central button means but I’m sure Suunto guys may catch it … I was refertint to this post : https://forum.suunto.com/topic/6660/some-much-more-interresting-screens-from-main-default-clock-screen-when-we-pressing-the-middle-button?_=1626278195709 Hope you were on the same page.

@dimitrios-kanellopoulos when the problem happened to me, even if not identical but similar to the one discussed in this topic, I was using the sensor on the wrist of the S9, for the HR

@brad_olwin gotcha. Sorry for my attitude - I simply find it shocking as I regard Suunto as a company who treats UI/UX very seriously and this example is just plain bad for the unsuspecting user. Anyway, here’s my rather simple solution with some assumptions: We’re not modifying ETA algorithms or doing any “deep” work. ETA fields can’t force 1s GPS out of the blue. Here’s the course of action: Enter the workout screen. Check if workout has ETA fields present. Check if workout has a battery mode that sets GPS to other than 1s. If two above are true, wait for 1 - 3 seconds and display what follows: [image: 1625471849192-suunto-mockup.png] The above mockup is relevant to a situation when user has selected (or has used before) an “Endurance” battery mode but the bottom part should display “Ultra” or “Custom” with appropriate colors when appriopriate. Why wait for 1 - 3 seconds? This message should be triggered when conditions are met and should prevent starting the activity. However - users may want to cycle the battery modes with upper button until they reach their preferred one, so a delay is necessary to avoid displaying the same message for Endurance, and then for Ultra and then for Tour and for Custom - you get the idea. The information is there, the choice is to be made We have a simple info that in order to see the ETA the watch needs a different battery mode than selected by the user. The difference it makes You can switch to “Performance” (or modify your custom battery mode to 1s GPS) and get your ETA fields working AND get accurate battery life estimation pre-workout. Or you can use different battery modes without ETA fields enforcing 1s fix but see “–” instead of an actual data.

@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos said in S9 barometer problems: So your garmin overregisters ascent. Take this with a grain of salt but I live in NL. If I apply the same philosophy at some flats I ll be ascenting like 100+ meters that is not realistic. -+1m changes should not be reported as they do not really contribute to any effort the user should take into account for his performance lever nor data wise. That is counting noise basically. I wrote something similar just days ago And yes, my Edge registers hundreds of meters of ascent in Amsterdam, that gladly Runalyze fixes on its own.

FusedTrack is the most amazing feature since having GPS track runs!!! It does not matter if I use Performance, Endurance or Ultra mode. I don’t have to charge my watch ever during a race and it will last for the longest single event I may attempt (70h) or 3day fastpacks! Plus, the watch is easy to use and I like the UI, my zones for HR or Power allow me not to put those fields on the screen. #2 and this is a biggie. Do you forget that in navigation the ambit went as the bird flies??? The S9 has the distance based on the route, another major deal. All the others that we get with SA! Immediate route drawing and transfer from the phone. Offline sync. This is a really old one lol Do you use hiking sport mode + endurance for the fast packing trips? Or do you consider that a trail run. I’m sure it’s been answered before just not sure on the GPS behavior between hiking and running sport modes for the alternative GPS settings. I typically use a Trail Run mode, as I will be doing jogging when on trails with FastPack trips. I am often off trail as well but moving as quickly as possible (can be considered very slow 30 min/mile or worse) but I view these as similar to Ultras so “Trail Run” mode. I do not go on trips with a heavy pack where I cannot jog unless an overnight SkiMo, which is neither a run or hike. I do use Hiking modes but those are for hikes only with friends or family where there is no running involved. Awesome, thank you

@Andrew-Chau said in Suunto 9 Firmware Update Suggestions: It’s probably just me and my lack of patience It’s not just you. And it hasn’t always been the case at Suunto. The main Ambit menu is looped and customisable to the extent that you can hide un-wanted functions. Either, both or full customisation would be nice in a more advanced watch. Perhaps just the option to reorder the list. [Mountain/molehill Mode ON] It’s a long, slow slog from Settings to Environment or annoying to go back in order to go forward. [Mountain/molehill Mode OFF] [… Still a bloody mole problem, tho’.]

@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos said in Suunto 9 Discounts: @Luís-Pinto said in Suunto 9 Discounts: @Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos serious? Well in smartphones sometimes you have issues in seeing so is logic what you say, yes. Yup. I just hate amoleds. Even cannot see my smartphone. I run with the s7 in Greece with polarized glasses, couldn’t see a thing. I have the same issue with my smartphone. That’s why the angle of the plane of polarization in LCDs matter. All LCDs should have it at 45° in smartphones and 90° in watch displays. How is it angled in the S7?

@frederic said in Saving exercise....: Had this issue for the first time today Has anyone tried to wait until the saving is finished ? If yes, did that get resolved by itself ? How long did it take ? I only waited 1h but maybe I should have waited 10h+ to see ? Curious to see if anyone has any experience. Hoping it was just a one-off issue. I had the issue again today I haven’t soft-reset the watch yet, is it realistic that if I leave it spin overnight I will wake up with my activity saved ? Or should I just give up and soft reset ?

@freeheeler said in Suunto 9 Baro AGPS n/a: @MiniForklift try a sync again, mine shows agps from 17th dec how’s your recovery by the way? Sorry, I missed this. Recovery generally I think has been good, back is feeling great and I am completely pain free now which is the first time in over a decade. I have a lot of tightness and pain in my hips which is supposedly normal while they adjust to everything, some days have been better than others but I’ve been keeping active and walking a fair bit. I might start some easy cycling once my hips are feeling good again, running will probably still be a while yet Appreciate you checking in, hope you had a great Christmas and New Year

@zhang965 I thought long and hard about staying out of this discussion but yeah. I really believe the general consensus is that this function simply isn’t as intuitive as we’d like, for starters. And thus there is that published “matrix” that is meant to help users to set it up for the various situations such as watch mode, exercise mode, etc. That plus the fact that there seems to be a technical issue (software and/or hardware) that isn’t consistent or reliable given a user’s situation, leads to added stress and frustration. This leads to “workarounds”. Personally, for night activities I’ve trained myself to remember to turn on backlight before hitting start. I remember to do this maybe 80% of the time! Literally, in this world today and as others have mentioned earlier, we’ve got to carry on, get out there and get the run/hike or whatever done regardless of expectations we put on our gadgets. I work for a software development firm (Agile/DevOps, 2-week sprints). Development moves swiftly. Requirements and feature requests are in abundance. We’ve all become demanding consumers. Sci-fi movies fuel our expectations. Good things are in the works surely for Suunto and the fitness/wellness technology industry. I’ll leave this here and exit the room - Years ago there was a slogan “People, powered by Technology”. I forget who or what organization came up with that. While that is kind of cool, I remind myself to turn that around and see it like this - “Technology, powered by people”. It kind of puts you the user in control, at least in the mental space. In other words, let’s not let the good/bad aspects of technology get to us. “Adventure starts with - you (here)”. The technology is along (with us) for the ride, not the other way around. Haha. I think this was more about me convincing myself.

@Vrba007 then it is quite possible that sweat got inside the baro hole, causing these continuous raise and drop in pressure. From the graph it looks that the drops are the spurious artifacts, and that would be consistent with an artificial increase of pressure due to sweat (or anything else pushing air/water inside the baro hole).

@marvelmike said in [DONE] Selling S9 bought Garmin Fenix 5x: S9 is a complicated sports watch and a poor smart watch. I agree and disagree. As a sports watch it’s far less complicated than a Fenix as it does so much less (which is obviously both a good and bad thing and all depends on the user’s desires). I use mine for running and walking and it does everything I need without being overly complex or data heavy. There are some things that are standard on a Fenix that I wish it had, such as a gesture-based setting to turn the light on when you raise your wrist - the number of times I’ve tried to check my watch whilst running at night and pausing it or doing other things is a pain. On the other hand (and I know a number of users on here would disagree), I use my Suunto as my daily watch and I wish the smart features were cleverer. I would love more customisation on the watchfaces and complications; I would love to be able to see notifications but without having a preview of messages; I would love step tracking to be cleverer as it is on other watches etc etc. I would hope that whenever the Suunto 9 Gen 2 or Suunto 10 comes out it will fix many of these things - after all, despite the updates, the Suunto 9 is a few years old now.
