@surfboomerang Aha! Thank you. I had naively assumed that the interval display would be created dynamically, in the manner that it is in my Ambits. Having added an interval screen to my custom sport mode, I can duly select intervals. Phew! As to the 'no intervals whilst navigating; feature: yes, I’d already spotted and been mildly irritated by that, though it’s much less problematic than the original issue would have been. Thanks for the remarkably rapid replies

@dimitrios-kanellopoulos Yes, I know. Wrist HR does turn off when belt is found, but still the watch first searches for wrist OHR. The small heart symbol on the watch has a tiny “belt” when it is belt HR. I started turning OHR off after a run, where the first kilometer had crazy HR values. Could be from belt, but also from wrist. I turn off the wrist HR to be sure that the HR the watch uses is from the belt, not OHR, without having to look for that almost too little belt on that small heart symbol. And I go to excercise options anyway. Indoors the backlight on, and when running, change intensity zones to pace. Half a sec clicking and wrist HR is also off.

Well, the behaviour seems stranger than what I previsously tought. Today I looked at my watch, on which I had not pressed a button, and it displayed the arrow near the correct letter, but when I pressed a button, there was a flash showing the arrow near the previous day… guess until now I only catched that flash of yesterday’s display… This only happens on the first press of the day…

This has now happened for the 3rd time in 2 weeks, after soft-reset, and on top of that, the last time the watch showed the empty battery display, after a 60-minute run started with 35% battery. Considering that it’s happening with a watch that was sent as a replacement due to this latter described issue, I’m back to highly disappointed

@Rosie65 You are not the first person to complain about that. Yes, standby backlight does help screen readability quite a bit in exchange to a small hit to the battery life.

@Meneillos basically the “alternative suppliers” you’ll find on aliexpress etc have some nice quality straps. fore sure not all, but read reviews and check pics mine is a model where i liked the pattern (original silicone black for S9B x-alps) but wanted it orange and it was not available at Suunto. I wear it 24/7 for 7 months now, almost no signs of wear… still bright orange! If Suunto had more colors, I would go for an original one of course.

@benoize said in Save preset target: @brad_olwin, too bad. I find this such a basic feature. How can this watch have a totally superfluous ‘feelings feature’(I mean, who really uses this??) and not have something like default or preset training features??? The feelings feature can be quite useful, I use it as my RPE for the run. There have been several scientific studies published demonstrating that RPE is a better method for gauging workout stress than HRV measurements as the latter require long history, precise timing during the day and are difficult to interpret. So you can use the feelings feature usefully. The S5 was designed for individuals either arrange their own workouts or want a coach. The watch has an adaptable coach feature that will provide adaptive workouts based on intensity. So, not only does it remember your last workout and suggest intensity and duration for the next, but the coach feature will adjust workouts if you skip or go harder than you should. There are three levels of workout coaching available. This might work for you. https://www.suunto.com/en-us/Support/Product-support/suunto_5/suunto_5/features/adaptive-training-guidance/

Thank you for the replies. Seems, I’ve exaggerated a bit. The battery lasts about 2-3 days at least, the case when it was working only a day seems to be a glitch. Nevertheless, I will keep an eye on that and try what you suggested if things went worse.

@André-Faria It is fairly well known that HR and similar light sensors can struggle with darker skin tones. And sometimes some optical HR readers can work better than others depending on skin tone. @AGarrett82 - I assume that you have correctly positioned your watch i.e. 1.5-2 fingers width from base of palm (so that the readings aren’t impacted by bones of the wrist etc); and that you have set the strap fairly tightly (I can always see the indentations in my skin post workout, once i have loosened my strap).
