It’s so weird that the calibration works for me during the activity. I have to be on the navigation screen for it to work. Maybe that clue was missing… Anyways, I can still hardly believe this sloppy engineering work: a watch that is not able to really store/save the calibration with a magnetic charging connector

@jmoneygrip I agree. I also found that the OHR is fairly accurate during activity. It is reasonably close ( at least during trail runs) to what I record on my chest HR monitor. I am satisfied from that standpoint. What annoys me are all the huge spikes in HR readings at rest and during the night. I do not probably meet the characteristics of the perfect target customer for the S9P; hence, I may care about wellness data from the watch ( and HR reading outside an activity or training) more than the average customer. However I still think this is an issue as these readings may affect sleeping scores and other metrics.

@dimitrios-kanellopoulos Yes, I know. Wrist HR does turn off when belt is found, but still the watch first searches for wrist OHR. The small heart symbol on the watch has a tiny “belt” when it is belt HR. I started turning OHR off after a run, where the first kilometer had crazy HR values. Could be from belt, but also from wrist. I turn off the wrist HR to be sure that the HR the watch uses is from the belt, not OHR, without having to look for that almost too little belt on that small heart symbol. And I go to excercise options anyway. Indoors the backlight on, and when running, change intensity zones to pace. Half a sec clicking and wrist HR is also off.

@flypg the standby option only enables a very dim backlight while you wear the watch. If I’m not mistaken it will still put the watch screen off after a couple of minutes without movement.

@surfboomerang I support that fromthe logical point of view, even I will not use it very often. I think it’s good when you can save the correct location and do the administrative work later

@Łukasz-Szmigiel Maybe you are right. I hope (both) bug(s?) will be fixed soon. Thank you for all of you.

@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos cool. Thanks for mentioning steps to reproduce. In fact - I did turn off hr belt as the watch was struggling to lock on to my hr with ohr (which never happens) so I thought maybe it stubbornly wants to connect to hr belt which was impossible at that time. Only after that I thought meh to hell with hr, it’ll figure it out anyway sooner or later and I proceeded to load the route.

@cosmecosta for sure. That’s the way. The thing is that logs are rotated every some hours. So the sooner after the issue appears the better. And yes preferably suunto link else via suunto app is also possible but then I need account emails etc. Suuntolink gives a log id that works better.

@Łukasz-Szmigiel said in The logic behind default GPS mode settings in different sports modes: FYI: This is even more buggy than I initially thought. I just realized it as I was too lazy to change it to either Custom or Performance so I left it on broken post-custom Endurance. However when looking at path it seemed strange to me that the points plotted on the map are more like in 1 min fix instead of 2 min fix. So I’ve downloaded GPX from QS and it’s indeed 1 min fix. It seems that S5 doesn’t switch to Endurance from Custom. It seems so from the UI but judging from the GPX - the track is actually saved in 1 min intervals, so: There’s no OHR because the watch enforces Endurance and the UI changes to orange. But the GPS mode is as defined in custom (Good = 1 min). So what results is some kind of weird amalgamation Not a custom sports mode and not a default Endurance either. Steps to reproduce: Go to any outdoor mode Go to battery modes, set custom Set OHR on, set GPS good Confirm custom Notice start screen turns blue Either exit start screen or start the activity (doesn’t matter, it’ll work this time) Go to the same activity Notice the UI changes color to orange, indicating the watch defaults to Endurance Start the activity and record ~15 min or more Check GPX for timestamps - after initial few minutes of 1 sec it defaults to 1 min. Thanks for the heads-up! Sounds like a tricky bug with the S5 not properly switching to Endurance mode despite showing the UI change. The GPS fix sticking to 1 minute instead of 2, along with no OHR, definitely makes it seem like a strange mix of modes. Your steps to reproduce are clear, and it’s helpful to know what to watch for with the GPX timestamps. Hopefully, a fix is on the way for this!

@TELE-HO in general you are correct. Many Informations can easily be dismissed with the middle button. Not so the downhill lap information in skiing. As I said - I reported it a year ago or so.

@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos I know. Is it confirmed that it’s corrected on the S line? I’ve reported this issue with the Spartan a couple of months ago to Suunto customer support and got the usual “I’ll forward to the devs” response. I thought I give it a try to get some votes on this as it’s told that votes do matter…

@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos I have several routes in SA, around half of them synchronized with the watch. There were 3 routes in watch memory when the bug occurred this time.

I like a problem with the scales.
