@mff73 yes, I expected zero reading when off wrist. Edited: now it is confirmed that HR made some high readings when off wrist and thats reason for high calories and PTE.

@chrisa it’s more likely inertia of the watch, but I’m no expert.

@jamie-bg yes i agree with you. And for me it wasn’t reason why i bought this watch so it is just nice bonus to have at least some results. I bought suunto 5 because i like design and features of suunto watches for gps tracking and recording activities.

I have Suunto 5 for few weeks. Step counter seems to work relatively fine when walking (but i never actualy counted my steps to be sure). But another think that bothers me that it counts step even when i don’t walk at all. While washing dishes and standing still it counted 200 steps just because of hand movement.

@surfboomerang sure, and it is possible already to do that, and it achieves the result. So @sophievh would this work for you?

[image: 1616788901048-suunto-5.png] This is my battery life. HR 24/7 enabled, sleep tracking enabled, bluetooth notifications disabled, vibration disabled, tones in button off mode. I did use GPS for 10minutes. I had one indoor activity with HR for 20 minutes. Once per day i synchronised with suunto app. Every day a played with watch around 5-10 minutes. Backlight was off 99% of time. So it looks i was too rush. Battery drop was fast only above 80% of battery. At around 80% i did soft reset. Maybe it helped to stop rapid battery drain. I am very satisfied with result.

I’m probably quite late for this party but as I also upgraded from a Spartan Trainer to the Suunto 5, let me just chime in for whoever has this same question in the future. downside: vibration is weaker it doesn’t sync to Movescount (but by now the Spartan Trainer probably doesn’t sync to Movescount anymore either) positives you can now actually use the vibration as a wake-up alarm (both in absolute time as well as relative to sunrise in case you want to wake up in time for a sunrise pedalboard session or anything) and even though the vibration is weaker than the Trainer, it does wake me up you get this visual representation of the sunrise and sunset times on your homescreen, which I really appreciate it also shows moon phases (for whoever appreciates that) depending on which Spartan Trainer you have now, you may not currently have a stainless steel bezel which the 5 does have (painted or plain) battery lasts a bit longer there are a couple of SuuntoPlus features which you might appreciate. I personally like the “loop” and “sprint” functions thereof. Compared to other Suunto watches, it indeed does not have a built in compass (though if you’re moving, it can show your heading which is useful too). The external GPS antenna doesn’t bother me. Like the Trainer, the unit is smaller than the Ambit 2S and Ambit 3 Peak (which I also have). If the 9 offers you something that you really want/need then of course get that. But if you were happy with the Trainer then you’ll likely also appreciate the 5.

@surfboomerang Aha! Thank you. I had naively assumed that the interval display would be created dynamically, in the manner that it is in my Ambits. Having added an interval screen to my custom sport mode, I can duly select intervals. Phew! As to the 'no intervals whilst navigating; feature: yes, I’d already spotted and been mildly irritated by that, though it’s much less problematic than the original issue would have been. Thanks for the remarkably rapid replies

@mafxxx Are you sure you are comparing the exact same lighting conditions? I’ve had mine for a similar length of time and find that there are conditions where the back light makes hardly any difference and others where it does. Because of this I wish they would make the heart rate and GPS indicators at the beginning of an exercise bigger and contrast the background more so I can more easily see whether the watch is ready for me to start my exercise. I’d also like a regular (non exercise) watch face with white background and black letters and numbers I love the watch otherwise.

@zbyněk-volný one of the best things with navigation in Suunto is that it switches direction on the fly - if you decide to turn around or start from the end to start of the original route, the watch will automatically switch direction and guide you according to your decision. This seems obvious but it isn’t in other brands. Therefore it’s impossible to precompute turns as way points in SA. It would have to be implemented as a dynamic feature. Perhaps as S+ maybe?
