Step Counter
-
Hello everybody!
I have bought a Suunto 5 recently. Is anybody having problems with step counter?? I think it doesn’t work correctly.
Thanks!

@lalo
does it count more steps, less steps ?
be aware that it counts your arm movements in fact, and if you search this forum, you will find other posts with “steps” questions/“issues”. -
@mff73 it counts less steps in fact… The thing is that sometimes it doesn’t start counting my steps until I have done 10 or more… Is there anything I have to check in my configuration, App, etc…?
Thank you for your help

@lalo I have tested different watches in the last months from Polar, Coros and Garmin and my son‘s Apple Watch and I found my Suuntos step counts quite accurate and inline with the other brands . Step counting from the wrist is never completely accurate. The „old“ step counters (I had a Fitbit One) many years ago were worn in a pocket or on your belt so they did not measure any arm or hand movements.

It may take some time to get accuracy, probably some running may help too. The S5 and S3 have the best step counters, better than the 9 as that is not the focus of the 9. The 7 should be similar to the 5 and 3 as well.

@lalo Hello, I can confirm the bad step counting with suunto 5. It is by far too little (example: running 9,98km time 56min 10 000 steps and 282kcal (???)).

@krzfx without your height and your weight one can’t say if it’s incorrect - if your quite tall stride length of 97 to 98 cm could be quite correct, kcal seems to be too low but depends on your weight and correct heart rate settings.

I have Suunto 5 for few weeks. Step counter seems to work relatively fine when walking (but i never actualy counted my steps to be sure). But another think that bothers me that it counts step even when i don’t walk at all. While washing dishes and standing still it counted 200 steps just because of hand movement.
