@sky-runner said in Suunto Athletics 7 loop strap: @v.sacre This looks like a common problem. I have the same strap, and the metallic part also detached after just a few weeks of use. I put it back and squeezed it with pliers, and so far, many weeks later, it stays attached. But I should say that overall I am disappointed with this strap and will not buy another one. The main problem is that it quickly stretched out and lost some of original elasticity. The longer strap is now borderline too long for me, but the short strap is too short. Next time I’ll buy Garmin Ultrafit strap which is higher quality and more comfortable. I also used Abanen hook and loop strap from Amazon with Race and still use with Race S. Even inexpensive Abanen strap is higher quality, in my opinion, than this Suunto strap. Longer strap is too long for me, I mean this metal part is too close to watch case. Short is too short like You said. I chooses to use short and over time it’s scratched out and its longer over time of use. But I agree. A bit expensive for this type of strap. I would buy 3, maybe 4 of them for same price without logo.

Have this strap since a few days now. Its great that it is much lighter, but the Race S is getting a little bit head-heavy. Its okay, but I wouldn’t use it with heavier watches. For Run and Race S Titanium its a perfect fit. I didn’t like it at the beginning as it was stiff, but wearing it made it softer. From my experience its not better for OHR per se, but I like that you can tighten easily during ther run. As I noticed cadence lock today running downhill a quick tightening of the strap resolved it in seconds. Long answer short: It helps in certain situations Edit: @Hari-Seldon: Black one is still sold out, so I got Coral. Love the colour

Has anyone replaced the belt only & then found the sensor to be at fault ? Since I posted above I’ve got rubbish results using the new belt pretty much every time I use it (regardless if I wear a vest or not)… On each of the runs below I wore a different T shirt so I don’t think its down to the fabric causing friction (I’ve read that that can also cause problems). @fv4500 said in Smart Sensor HR belt: memory function with other belts?: I understand that if the protocol used is the general BLE then there’s cross-compatibility? There is no cross-compatibility reading the stored exercise data from belt memory between brands.

Since I have somewhat of a scientist’s ethos and realised that the Suunto HR belt with module could be used in four different combinations, I felt that I also had to provide data for all of them, to prove or disprove the warning in this topic’s heading; “Beware module orientation”. The belt itself can be worn ‘correctly’ with the closing hook and loop on the left side of the torso (hook going down through the loop), or upside down on the right side of the torso with the hook going up through the loop. On my belt there are no markings at the electrode ‘snap-in holes’ other than the in-between text “MOVESENSE”. The ‘correct’ belt position still feels awkward to me after half a year of usage since I’ve had so many years with both Garmin and Polar belts, which both close on the right side of the torso… On this belt then, the module can be snapped in correctly, with the SUUNTO logo pointing upwards (red triangle above text) aligning with the reading of the MOVESENSE text orientation, or be flipped into an incorrect position upside down. The module has markings of L and R at the electrodes but, as said, nothing corresponding on my belt. Calling ‘correct’ position Up and incorrect Down I have logged the following results: BeltUp-ModuleUp (Pulse OK, HRV OK) BeltUp-ModuleDown (Pulse OK, HRV Not-OK) BeltDown-ModuleUp (Pulse OK, HRV OK) BeltDown-ModuleDown (Pulse Not-OK, HRV Not-OK) In my opening postings of this subject I included screenshots from the first two combinations. Looking at the third and fourth results, where one had OK pulse while the other had massive misreadings might be a fluke with either one, OR the last combination really do exacerbate the position problem. No way to know without doing a large number of experiment sessions. I’ll skip screenshots from the BeltDown-ModuleUp (Pulse OK, HRV OK) session Wed 30/7 since it was so clean in both areas. I’m using the OHR of a Garmin FR955 with the old Firmware 19.18 as control - normal result is +1 to +2 bpm against both a Polar H10 and the Suunto belt at all kinds of running efforts (my skin/wrist really agrees with OHR, also on the Race S). Instead I will end this posting with data from yesterday Fri 1/8 BeltDown-ModuleDown (Pulse Not-OK, HRV Not-OK) and a closing BeltUp-ModuleUp (Pulse OK, HRV OK) from today Sat 2/8 to really underscore that my belt is A-OK in a correct position. Not worn out, and locked to a constant length by a safety pin at the adjustment point. Fri 1/8 BeltDown-ModuleDown (Pulse Not-OK, HRV Not-OK): [image: 1754147758046-1000008639.jpg] [image: 1754147816494-1000008640.jpg] [image: 1754147848503-1000008641.jpg] Sat 2/8 BeltUp-ModuleUp (Pulse OK, HRV OK): [image: 1754147943930-1000008642.jpg] [image: 1754147990362-1000008643.jpg] The only conclusion I can draw is that some sensor inside the module interferes with the HRV and possibly HR data when not in an imagined ‘correct’ position. This then would most probably be a software problem. But since I am not offered any method to upload a new SW version, it might as well be called a hardware defect.

@sartoric Fair point but considering my old version has performed perfectly for over 10 years I would’ve happily bought another one I’ll just be happy to have a working belt again as I used the watch OHR yesterday & the end result was laughable [image: 1752997598199-60e0f61c-4a40-40a8-a02e-697aac00aaf3-image.png]

@flexh88 I don’t think anything has changed on the smart sensor. The belt was updated a few years ago to make it more durable. I’m using ZoneSense with a polar H10, which had the advantage of cheep 3rd party replacement belt supply. The advantages of the smart sensor over the H10 is the smaller size/weight and the capability to store HR data in is memory while BT connection is broken (like in the pool).

@tinten.addi Got it, I just checked out the UK website and it is the old style. They have changed the website in the US and it does not have several of the items that are available in the UK. Having said that, the Run is in stock in the US so… Suunto is so special.

This would be a good idea because the current offer for cyclists is very poor - e.g. sensors, import and integration of activities from other services and devices.

@aamado said in Using Suunto heart rate belt for scuba diving: Hello Everyone, Can the Suunto heart rate belt monitor be used for scuba diving? I’m thinking that, when diving in cold waters, I won’t be able to use the HR sensor from the watch (not even sure if it works underwater!), so using the chest belt for HR might be an option. Maybe better with dry suit to avoid getting wet but not sure if pressure can damage or even break the sensor which isn’t something pleasant to happen during a dive! Any thoughts on this topic? Thanks, Antonio Interesting question. I have never dived with a heart rate monitor but I swim a lot with OWS and in the pool with a heart rate monitor. I think it can be done but only with the Suunto Heart Rate Belt because Bluetooth does not work underwater. The Suunto sensor has its own internal memory and can work independently with the watch after starting the activity. After finishing, the data is automatically transferred to the watch. If you want to dive with Suunto “OCEAN”, I don’t know because I don’t know this model. The only limitation is depth. According to the manufacturer, the water resistance is up to 30 meters.
