@pavel-samokha As I was using the map for planning a relatively far away activity, that had not occurred to me: I suppose the distance ruler would require it.
With location permissions the functions work fine on the old iPhone.
The iPad can now search again (with the usual reservation that the results are skewed towards domestic addresses and businesses rather than peaks, cols, lakes, etc.).
However, the availability of altitudes on the iPad is still just as unpredictable as before. Full location label and altitude or just co-ordinates for points a few tens of metres apart.
I find the ruler just gets in the way of trek planning and my location isn’t relevant - is there any chance that Ruler+Location requirement could become optional while keeping the rest?
