Suunto Run + New Strap

@Cédric said in Suunto Run + New Strap:
On the Amazon listing for the Suunto Run, there’s an image showing an interval counter.
Thanks, Cedric, I’ll go and take another look. I’d hope / expect this would be backported. Apparently though I may be in the minority as some people seem to think Suunto is mostly incapable of adding features to existing devices.

@raven A Suunto France representative recently said that the Vertical and Race are the new development platform for Suunto watches, so we should logically get the latest features.
That may have changed since then…

That’s promising to hear, and would support my hopes that the local music feature of the Run might also get backported, which would mean that Suunto had a long term plan and ensured the Race and Vertical had the needed hardware. The counter-argument would be the improved optical sensor on the Race S, which ideally would have been on at least the Race too, so that does seem like an adjustment made after reviews of the Race.

@raven Here’s the link to the video, which is in French https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zu-GCU8p09I&t=254s
It’s 11 months old—not so recent after all.
He talks about it at the 41 minutes of the video. -
One of the Amazon images references to “offline music”. That would be a change. Let’s hope it isn’t just MP3s but some kind of streaming platform integration.

@Theo-Lakerveld I would not hold my breath if what DC Rainmaker has been saying for the last few years. According to him it is not Suunto or Coros not trying, he says that the companies are just not interested in taking on Suunto or Coros. Kind of like not being able to do real text responses on an Apple device vs an android. Apple is not willing to open up that functionality.

Repetition counter: COOL!
But I’m afraid I won’t be able to read (especially when moving) those tiny characters.
-
@enriqueescoms I know right.

Officially announced on suunto’s website
-
I have been testing this watch for a while
-
do the new velcro straps will be available too?
-
@isazi give us your view on the watch compared to SR and SRS.
-
@Stefano-M64 I am not sure, I believe at some point it will (I bet availability at first is only for the Run)

The watch is nice, but the new firmware: Wow. Can’t wait to find out what has changed regarding structured workouts.

@dulko79 not comparable for me personally, the Run is an entry level watch focused on running, not the watch I would buy. But there is a market for this, a small light watch for people running. In the last marathon I did run, the vast majority of people had cheap and old ForeRunners.

@isazi after watching Joachim Perez Video, it’s seem to be an awesome piece of gear for runners, with very nice features and caracteristics !
As it’s mentionned to be a “parallel” OS plateform from other watches, I’m now very curious to see what will be brought to SV, SR, SRs…
Not the watch I would by also, but a very clever move from suunto, and a very serious competitor for other brands. -
Some info from the Spanish Forum:
- New velcro straps will be available for other watches.
- No ZS at the beginning for the Suunto Run, probably later on. This I do not understand, in my opinion ZS is one key point for running.
- New OS and platform only for Suunto Run, not the others. Both platforms should co-live.
- Features from SRun will be also in the SR, SRs and SV, update likely in July.
I think it is a great product for Suunto, a killer one (Still I do not understand why do not have ZS from the beginning). The looks, the features and the price are really good compared with the other brands offer.
On the other hand I hope all the functions that aren’t hardware compatible, are ported to the SV, more in my case that I’m basically a runner and trail runner.
