Software update 2.39.20 (2024 Q4)
-
Dear development Team,
it´s not the first time this happens but this latest update 2.39.20 did more harm then good. Now my heart frequecy sensor, which for me is the MOST important feature in a fitness watch, is not working. It is stuck and on display i see only “Measuring…”, if I reboot the watch it works for some time then again gets stuck. I must say I was a really big fan of Suunto and especially of its philosophy of beeing a small focused company caring for the environment and delivering high quality products with premium materials and fewer but high performing software features. Since now software issues happened one too many time I think I will move to another watch because I am not ready to loose so much training data cosnidering I payed almost 400€ for my Suunto 9 Peak Pro.
I hope you will improve in the future so that I can switch back to your watches because I think from the hardware point of view they have no riivals.Nevertheless Happy Christmas Holidays

What will your pick be? Who’s software is better and bug free?

Hi all S9PP’s people. Thank you for the logs and we have found the issue.
I ll keep you posted.
Nah, I’m cool. I just learned that I’m a hamster, hence the 255 hr.

@Łukasz-Szmigiel You made my day
-
@Nicola-Fontana unique case/situation. I don’t think this is a majority feeling.
-
@sebchastang i have the same issue. Anybody know how to install previous OTA-packages on the vertical?

great job! glad to hear this good news
-
a fix for the HR issue is currently under testing
-
@Egika Do you know if a fix for bad “control panel” display when activated by bottom button shortcut is also under testing?
Even if it is probably less important than the HR issue, I think it deserves consideration from Suunto since it has been broken with latest firmware.
Thanks. -
@sebchastang sorry, I don’t know. Can also not reproduce this myself.
-
@Egika no problem.
Steps to reproduce:- set control panel as bottom button shortcut
- restart watch
- access control panel by long pressing bottom button > result is a bad display of control panel as described in @TrailEyes video
https://forum.suunto.com/post/158535
Sometimes Control panel displays well, sometimes does not.
I also contacted support to tell them about the control panel issue. I don’t know if this is going to be forwarded to dev team.
Anyway, I am happy for S9PP users who will soon have a fix thanks to Suunto responsiveness

I now could reproduce it on my S9PP. Seems to be a MIP device only issue.
Not sure if too much will happen regarding this one over the Christmas holidays though… -
@Egika Good to know you can reproduce!
I would be satisfied just by knowing Suunto will include a fix for this issue in the next update (Q1 2025).
Thanks again for your help -
@Egika do you know how long it could take to implement fixed version?
I received my 9PP two days ago, first impression was great, I updated FW to the most recent and… then nightmare started:
- Sleep tracking does not work (HR 24/7 and sleep tracking enabled). First night it detected wake up with 3hrs delay, 2nd night nothing tracked.
- not all steps seems to be counted. Yesterday since morning no single step was counted till I soft restarted watch
- watch shows temperature in range 27-32 deg C. I don’t now what it suppose to mean. It is not my temperature nor environment.
I am feeling disappointed. I am asking about software update date because I still have 12 days to send it back.

@false proper qa tests where done extensively. There was another issue that caused this.
-
Hi all. Sooner or later some beta fw will come here for the ohr issue.
Within the weekend hopefully.
-
@false Humour always explains things better
-
@false Well, and seriously speaking, the truth is that in relation to this update, as a user of 9 Peak Pro and after 3 days of using this update, I must say that it has deeply DISAPPOINTED me.
Not only has it not introduced any improvement in scope (only in the area of structured training there is a lot of room for improvement, for example) but it has brought us PROBLEMS with the operation of the HR sensor that we did not have before.
To top it off (and this is already a subjective opinion, of course) the new pseudo-carrousel type animation seems to me a great STEP BACK in DESIGN terms.
That is why, as I have already come to say, I have undone the steps and returned to the previous version. And, of course, I think I am not the only one.

So, to buck the trend, here’s something about a FW improvement that wasn’t mentioned in the notes
A couple months ago (https://forum.suunto.com/post/148150) when the tooth with distance to waypoint got added to the breadcrumb screen, I mentioned something about making it override the other tooth sections in the other screens.
Today was my first TBT run with the new FW, and the instructions for next turn did override the tooth, so I didn’t need to switch screens all the time, which was especially useful when turns were clustered. Fab.
However, I think it needs maybe a bit of tweaking. The behaviour was a bit tricky to understand for me to start - First of all it only overrode the tooth for densely nested turns, then reverted back to normal tooth (distance/Time in ZS etc). However, after a while, it just stayed the entire time. This is useful, however I’m missing whatever data I assigned to that part of the sport mode screen. Any chance this can be played with so it only comes in under 100m?
Otherwise it’s fantastic. Or I just adjust my custom sport modes and then it’s also fine if I don’t use the bottom tooth as I know it’ll be used.
