How are so many basic features missing? Are these on the roadmap?

@elbee He said it would be ok to have slower development times if you get better quality and more stable software than others. But thats not the case
He said “ Nevertheless, I miss the innovation and rapid development of, for example, Coros. Also, I would just like more and faster development in the app.”
I read that as wanting more and faster.
-
@elbee Well, the forum is full of crashes, black grid, etc. In my opinion, the processing quality is significantly higher than the software development… only how long should that last… I have quite understood that everyone has their requirements and preferences. But I can’t say that due to the much slower software development and the smaller range of functions, the watch works much more stable than with Garmin or Coros etc. For me, the watch design is really outstanding… but the software and the range of functions are stagnant.
-
@elbee I’m sorry, English is not my native language. I distinguish between the great workmanship of the watch and the great design as well as the in my opinion stagnant software development.

No problem. English isn’t my native language either.
I’m a software developer so I see software development as craftsmanship.
I understand that it is easy to demand more features and wanting them now. We also demand stable firmware that doesn’t crash nor has bugs.
But in software it’s next to impossible to do both.(And sadly, now I’m going to report a bug again)

@elbee
slower development and fewer bugs is always preferred.
or let’s say: slower development and in general more complete and matured firmware, software, features…(…still don’t understand how my windows laptop takes ages to connect to the one single connected headphones while my mac just connects when I take them off the charger

@pbanon What you call basic features, mostly are smartwatch features, that really are not needed on sports watch.
Like it or not, most modern adventure watches are also smartwatches. Why can’t it be decent at both?
Getting back to watch face during activity? Why would you ever want to do that, your activity has all the data you need.
Because I like to see the current time big and center when I’m tracking an activity. I haven’t found a way to edit/add screens or data fields in activity pages so more customization options there would be nice.
You can always pause an activity and unpause the activity even if you are resting for prolonged time period.
But what if I want to use my watch normally in the mean time? The paused activity can’t sit idle in the background while I do other things, it has to be open front and center.
Custom watch faces is a gimmick, I would like Suunto to spend dev resources somewhere else.
There is no way for me to have the current date, notification count, sunset/sunrise time, and battery life on any of the watches faces. That’s not that much information.

Because Suunto has chosen not to. I don’t want a smartphone on my wrist so I chose Suunto.

I agree about seeing the time in a bigger font. But maybe just allow the time to be a data field (is it already?)

What happens if you want to start another sport in the meantime? Or you forget it’s sitting in the background?

I agree that a more modular approach to watch faces is needed - I don’t want the complication vomit of Garmin but I would like to see more flexibility with existing ones.

Customizing data screens is fairly straightforward in the Suunto App, but you have to create a custom sport mode first. I use one for trail running. Once you’ve created it, it will get synced to the watch and you can use it during activity just like one of the predefined sport modes.
Furthermore, time of day is one of existing data fields. There is way to have a data screen with time of day only, but you can have a data screen with 3 fields of your choice, one of which is time of day. For example, you can add the battery level and sunset time, or perhaps something else. There are a lot of choices.

Use normally? It’s a sports watch, not a Nintendo console.
You can set time, sunset, and other things as data fields.
Looks to me that you really want is a full‑on smartwatch with sports features – which Suunto doesn’t make. Suunto only makes sports watches.

“What happens if you want to start another sport in the meantime? Or you forget it’s sitting in the background?”I can only tell how garmin implemented this. When you pause an activity to resume later, you return to the normal watch mode. When you press the button to start an activity, you automatically start the paused activity. There is no option to start an other activity. If you forget the pauses activity you will find it the next time you start an activity (and you have the option to resume it, end and save if or end and delete it)
Works fine on a garmin, except for quite some bugs, but that’s garmin.@maszop
“Use normally? It’s a sports watch, not a Nintendo console.”
There are reasons to pause an activity to resume later, like on a social bike ride where you have a coffee stop half way, or lunch. Perfectly fine to pause an activity to resume later and in the mean time use your watch as a watch. Got nothing to do with a nintendo console. For me, the pause to resume later would be a nice to have, not a must have. But also not a wont have. (wont have, as in there are better ways for suunto developers to spend their time on)
