Suunto Run + New Strap
-
@daveathletic I do not think so, the two platforms are separate right now.

@suzzlo and you can select in the watch, on which arm and in which orientation you are wearing it.
So right arm, crown facing hand, is possible, as the display is rotatedIn this case the baro holes are at 6 oâclock
that was a suggest feature for left handed people, nice that has been implemented
Iâm a sinister (left-handed) person. Is this possible to implement for Race S?
-
@isazi thatâs a bummer
, they look quite similar, so thought that the Run has just an upgraded version of the existing OS.
Hope they will upgrade Race series in the future as well. -
@daveathletic I much prefer the âoldâ OS
-
@isazi Of course you know more than me and I understand that you canât say anything, according to DC Rainmaker seems that Suunto is evaluating whether to move everything to the new platform or maintain both platforms.
From what I see, the new platform, with the vertical scrolling, will work well with crown watches but I have my doubts with the buttons (SV and Ocean). Anyway I would like to see some of the features and the multisensor support in the SV (and others).
-
@cosme.costa my guess is that, one day, if everything works out, new watches will be based on the new platform (having one platform is more cost effective), but I do not think that time is now, or even 2025.
-
@isazi do you have a hint - and can share - which hardware elements changed that allowed for the new OS to run and make it impossible (or very hard to) retrofit to older devices?
-
@Ćukasz-Szmigiel I do not think the hardware changes are what matters here, I would say it is development (and costs). If you update older devices to this different firmware, you would expect to have at least all the old functionalities working, plus new shiny stuff. And that is not the case today. Easier to start with a completely new device, and a more âbudget friendlyâ one, before moving this to more expensive products.
-
@isazi now itâs real, guys.

Does anybody have any information regarding battery life with music playing?
I guess battery life in technical specifications is without music playing.
Training: All-Systems GNSS mode + Multi-Band:
- without music playing: up to 20h
- with music playing: up to xx h
Training: All-Systems GNSS mode + Single-Band:
- without music playing: up to 30h
- with music playing: up to xx h
Thanks a lot

No access to SuuntoPlus, so itâs impossible to transfer workouts from a training platform like TrainingPeaks â is that correct?
-
@Cédric correct. You would have to rebuild them in the Suunto App
-
@Egika Unbelievable â how is that even possible in 2025

The ânew platformâ here seems like a âbranchâ of the OS on Race / Race S / Vertical, yes? Widgets like weather, heart rate, sunrise/sunset, etc. look identical and I canât imagine these were coded âfrom scratchâ without any institutional knowledge of the previous OS?
I assume thereâs a version number for the Runâs OS â do we know what that is? Iâd be surprised if it was something like Suunto Rebirth 1.0 but maybe thatâs what they did.
-
I understand that Suunto Climb Guidance is NOT available (at least initially) in this new Run, right?
-
@Cédric. Absolutely. And even more so for a device that is supposed to be specifically for running.
-
@Cédric but that may be coming (I have guides on the FT firmware and app)
-
@isazi Letâs hope so, otherwise future buyers might end up very disappointed.

@Sascha-Domres I donât believe that the Ocean is Suuntoâs flagship watch.
It used to be the Ambit Peak, the Suunto 9 Baro, etc., but since the 2023 production line, each model (Ocean , Vertical, Race , Run ) serves a different purpose.
I think there isnât one that is better than all the others. They are all excellent at exactly what they are designed to do and fitted in every demand/budget of users.
(Just my perspective)Ocean - hybrid use Dive and multi sport
Vertical - rugged for extended outdoor endurance sports
Race - faster menu browsing when racing and âbetterâ compact fit
Run - running simplest easier useI like a lot this strategy and categories of Suunto!

I think we can look at this by how Suunto organizes their lineup. On Suuntoâs USA site (if different elsewhere, Iâm curious to know!), the models are organized like this:
Sports & Training
- Suunto Run ($249, last week, this first position was Suunto 9 Peak Pro)
- Suunto Race S (starting at $349)
- Suunto Race (starting at $399)
Adventure
- Suunto Vertical (starting at $499)
Outdoor Essentials
- Suunto Core ($219)
Dive
- Suunto Ocean ($899)
I can see the argument that Ocean may be considered the flagship based on price; however, that may just be a consequence of its specific functionality and possibly less overall popularity. One might consider the Vertical the flagship again, if it meets a combination of âhighest price and qualityâ along with having a wider audience than the Ocean; I have no idea how much either sells.
On the other hand, perhaps the âflagshipâ here is the Race, as the most expensive watch in the category with the most models? Iâm not sure how much the word flagship really means or what it should represent.
I do see Run, Race S, Race as ideally being almost a âgood, better, bestâ lineup, although really Race and Race S are the same tier as itâs mostly just a size difference (and yes, the optical sensor, but in an ideal world these would have been the same, Iâd expect a future âRace 2â series to be the same if two models were released concurrently). This is coloring some of my expectations; for example, in the Garmin world, if one compares the Forerunner 165 with the 265, are there features on the 165 not on the 265? I may be wrong but I donât recall that. So with the Run / Race situation, viewed as a Venn diagram of features, you donât have a clear âsubset / supersetâ situation but instead a common middle area with both products having features the other one does not.
