Suunto Run + New Strap
-
Maybe has been asked before here, but anyone knows if the new OS from the Run is also coming to the Race/Race S. Kinda like the style of the widgets and the other new UI features. Would be really nice.
-
@daveathletic I do not think so, the two platforms are separate right now.

@suzzlo and you can select in the watch, on which arm and in which orientation you are wearing it.
So right arm, crown facing hand, is possible, as the display is rotatedIn this case the baro holes are at 6 o’clock
that was a suggest feature for left handed people, nice that has been implemented
I’m a sinister (left-handed) person. Is this possible to implement for Race S?
-
@isazi that’s a bummer
, they look quite similar, so thought that the Run has just an upgraded version of the existing OS.
Hope they will upgrade Race series in the future as well. -
@daveathletic I much prefer the “old” OS
-
@isazi Of course you know more than me and I understand that you can’t say anything, according to DC Rainmaker seems that Suunto is evaluating whether to move everything to the new platform or maintain both platforms.
From what I see, the new platform, with the vertical scrolling, will work well with crown watches but I have my doubts with the buttons (SV and Ocean). Anyway I would like to see some of the features and the multisensor support in the SV (and others).
-
@cosme.costa my guess is that, one day, if everything works out, new watches will be based on the new platform (having one platform is more cost effective), but I do not think that time is now, or even 2025.
-
@isazi do you have a hint - and can share - which hardware elements changed that allowed for the new OS to run and make it impossible (or very hard to) retrofit to older devices?
-
@Łukasz-Szmigiel I do not think the hardware changes are what matters here, I would say it is development (and costs). If you update older devices to this different firmware, you would expect to have at least all the old functionalities working, plus new shiny stuff. And that is not the case today. Easier to start with a completely new device, and a more “budget friendly” one, before moving this to more expensive products.
-
@isazi now it’s real, guys.

Does anybody have any information regarding battery life with music playing?
I guess battery life in technical specifications is without music playing.
Training: All-Systems GNSS mode + Multi-Band:
- without music playing: up to 20h
- with music playing: up to xx h
Training: All-Systems GNSS mode + Single-Band:
- without music playing: up to 30h
- with music playing: up to xx h
Thanks a lot

No access to SuuntoPlus, so it’s impossible to transfer workouts from a training platform like TrainingPeaks — is that correct?
-
@Cédric correct. You would have to rebuild them in the Suunto App
-
@Egika Unbelievable — how is that even possible in 2025

The “new platform” here seems like a “branch” of the OS on Race / Race S / Vertical, yes? Widgets like weather, heart rate, sunrise/sunset, etc. look identical and I can’t imagine these were coded “from scratch” without any institutional knowledge of the previous OS?
I assume there’s a version number for the Run’s OS — do we know what that is? I’d be surprised if it was something like Suunto Rebirth 1.0 but maybe that’s what they did.
-
I understand that Suunto Climb Guidance is NOT available (at least initially) in this new Run, right?
-
@Cédric. Absolutely. And even more so for a device that is supposed to be specifically for running.
-
@Cédric but that may be coming (I have guides on the FT firmware and app)
-
@isazi Let’s hope so, otherwise future buyers might end up very disappointed.
-
@Sascha-Domres I don’t believe that the Ocean is Suunto’s flagship watch.
It used to be the Ambit Peak, the Suunto 9 Baro, etc., but since the 2023 production line, each model (Ocean , Vertical, Race , Run ) serves a different purpose.
I think there isn’t one that is better than all the others. They are all excellent at exactly what they are designed to do and fitted in every demand/budget of users.
(Just my perspective)Ocean - hybrid use Dive and multi sport
Vertical - rugged for extended outdoor endurance sports
Race - faster menu browsing when racing and “better” compact fit
Run - running simplest easier useI like a lot this strategy and categories of Suunto!
