@TELE-HO Logging metrics including optical HR while following a route using the WorkOutDoors App easily get 9 hours. Does me.

@margusl Found it easy, no real issues. Figuring out the training and how it works was a bit more complex, but so much more powerful than training peaks, and was fairly easy after watching a couple of good youtube videos and reading Garmins support pages. Watch transition was pretty easy: weight - have the F6xPS so weight is only 10g more, so not too bad adjusting, plus pretty much same size as S7. Screen - while not as brilliant and as wow, the F6 is pretty awesome when its in a bit of light (and gets better the brighter it is), otherwise you can use the backlight to provide enough light to see, however can also set backlight to be activated by wrist tilt. So no impact from that side (colours are just slightly more muted). Touch - no issues other than when using maps, but am used to it now - though buttons are clunky compared to using touch to pan around and zoom into maps (serious case for F6 to have a touch screen just for map usage). But as normally using routes/TBT directions, seldom need to pan/zoom in, so really isn’t an issue. SetUp - that was painful figuratively and physically - no option like suunto to use phone app to set up screens etc, and as all the heavy lifting is done by the watch virtually everything has to be set up on the watch, and there is sooo much more to customize, so there are lot and I do mean a lot, lot, lot of button presses to set up customized data screens and fields for walking, running, cycling, pool swimming, SUP, hiking, strength training, cardio, yoga, and open water swimming - but its pretty much a one off. Occasionally I tweak them (huge advantage here as you can tweak while tracking so can quickly add/remove/edit screens, change screen layout, add/remove/edit data fields). Watch faces - more limited that what wear os provides, but it does have enough customization to give you what you want, and if not there is the IQ connect store which has quite a few options, and failing that there are SDK so you can build/create your own. IQ5 - which I believe they have just stated the F6 will be able to use will allow more of the firstbeat metrics to be included as complications. The only pity I do miss is being able to press on a complication to launch that complication, however a button press makes it easy to pick up the widgets list (can customize what on and where on list - can go from top or bottom of list depending which button you press) which provide a first glance which you can then drill down into, thus far more quicker to get that sort of detail i.e. stress - can have it as a sperate widget or as part of the health stats widget. First glance shows stress, current level and its status i.e. 48 & low (and its always active so can change as you are looking at it). Going into widget screen 1 shows current level and 4hr graph, next page = overall avg with breakdown of duration for rest, low, med, high; next page = 7 day graph of avg stress, plus provides avg of that 7 day. Pressing the start button on any of these screens can provide additional info/actions - in this case pressing it will suggest a breathwork exercise with you can action to lower your stress. You will also get a stress reminder if you stress remains very high for a long period. There are hotkeys which you can customize to launch a variety of functions like the control wheel for apps, lock/unlock buttons (or can use autolock), alarms, countdowns etc etc. There are about 7 customizable settings. this I find works better than GA and makes up for not being able to use watch face complications to launch app.

Sad too is that the powerwatch not really maintained. No more reaction on mail contacts. Seems that the team is small, and didn’t resist well to the corona crisis and the ship gates. Seems to be pretty skilled. Would be sad that know-how disappear. Maybe a good point to acquire them, having good people, know-how, and further accès to the U.S.

One more here leaving Suunto… in my case for Garmin (again) I like to try watches (always one in then one out so I only have one at a time) and moved Garmin to Suunto some months ago. I love the Vertical, in my opinion it is the most beautiful sports watch that exists, as well as one of the most comfortable and with the best screen. But… SW issues and not having a Web version of Suunto App made me return to Garmin this time.

@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos I got a collection of Zombie notifications on my S9 (latest fw), Android SA - beta, LG G6 Android Oreo. So, here are just my two cents: when someone accepts Google Calendar invite it is impossible to remove that notification. I use Google calendar all the time, and when I invite someone to the calendar event, and they accept, there is no way to remove that notification. declined calls stay for no reason, even if I check the notification a bug - If I get a notification, for example SMS, and I use quick reply - reply from notification, when I press send the watch beeps for new notification but it was not a new notification, just a reply to the current one. https://images.techhive.com/images/article/2016/08/quick-reply-nougat-100678494-orig.jpeg ^just to make sure everyone understands what I think of when I say quick reply. If I find more stuff I’ll write it here. Cheers

@subtleguru given that the man himself said there might be something to it in the way the chip caches satellite readings I’ll have to disagree. You are right though. There is no scientific way to prove this theory, outside of inside info w sony/suunto, without buying a second S9. And I’m fairly confident the Mrs would frown upon such a decision

@regger I always have up to date APGS data. For me up to date AGPS means the same day as the activity day. Never had issues like this with GAL (except for the July malfunction). Maybe in your region GAL isn’t a good option.

@Artem-Lavrynenko - unfortunately I don’t work for Suunto so can’t tell you if they would or wouldn’t - but I suspect wouldn’t - as not enough demand. Note that my suggestion on how to run it via manual lap times will work in this regard. if you were previously late, or for some reason the gun is early (shortened sequence etc) - then press manual lap ASAP post gun. You can then see the lap timer from your current manual lap and base the start gun off that. i.e. you started at 15min gun. 5min gun comes 11 mins after start gun, so you instead of leaving start running you press manual lap, this starts a duration count from 0. So you now have total duration running in background, and a manual point at 11mins. When the start gun goes 5 minutes later - you can see that from the manual lap point, you cross start and press manual lap. Your total duration will show 16mins, have a manual lap(ML) start at 11mins and at 16mins. You can then press ML at end of race, at end of each leg etc depending on what you want to time and record. When you view the ML points later on the map you will be able to see and confirm what each point was, asssuming you can’t remember. Am assuming your suunto/watch can do this? I know the S7 can as do this for some of fitness activities (unfortunately do not sail anymore). Not ideal but very workable and sort of how we used to do this with the old casio watches which only had start, stop and split. Crew had to keep a note of the timings on a whiteboard.which we would later transcribe into notepad along with map of sailing area and try and work out track onto map with notes and comments around wind and wave conditions and the impact on the sides of the courses. Always very useful when next sailing in same place and weather conditions are similar as could review what worked, where expected bends, holes etc were and then test them out prior to the race (we were usually out 1-1.5hrs before a race checking and testing potential course). Also useful to note if wind conditions changed and a similar shift occurred in a later race. Helped me a couple of times from being caught on wrong side of the course. Would be soooo much easier now with current tech to do similar.

@Brad_Olwin True, for me it is not a problem to add a new device every time before starting an activity, but it is impossible to do it during a multisport activity, for example.

@Chocksta I agree with you and Egika. To me the Ambit3 is the solid, 2 color display, no touch functions etc do-it-all watch. I would rather call it the Defender than the Cayenne… Before I bought the Ambit3 Peak I came from the Fenix3 which, to be honest, is a beautiful and well working watch. I almost bought a Spartan Ultra back then but noticed that the Ambit3 Peak is more what I need. (…and yes, I would like to keep and with fully function use it for many many years…!!) But here is the point. We can not all be product managers and be in-depth informed about all single features. If you spend weeks and hours to learn about all the pro’s and con’s of the watches… what do you do when you need a new car then! As the Spartan family and now the 9 are smart watches everything is possible. Suunto just has to listen and adapt the programming. I think it is very helpful to go back to watch mode and the basic functions of a watch without stopping an activity.

@isazi yes, watch instead of checking what data are received from what sensor, watch just check what pod is paired… so even bigger limitation than just one type of device.

Wahoo ELEMNT Bolt for a few years. Strava live segments are implemented well and ride with gps turn by turn instructions is really helpful though its a pain that Strava courses don’t also have this… works with Varia radar as well and is a really intuitive interface. very easy to send a route from phone app to the unit wirelessly out mid ride etc which makes it much easier to work with than Garmin headunits from what I have heard. Wahoo support is responsive and good; they clearly care about their customers and want to provide good service.

@binoworld-uk you can go to https://intervals.icu/ Create an account and then you can set up a connection to your Suunto account in settings on the webpage and intervals.icu will read your trading data from your Suunto account, showing you tons of data and possibilities to display it.
