Black grid issue
-
I am having issues with maps after the update where in various locations it shows a partial black grid on the map - half of the screen shows the map, half black grid.
I have had also a problem with the navigation itself, where the arrow was not always pointing into the direction, but it was jumping around and couldn’t stabilize. I assume it has something to do with a lot of building being around, but I have been in many such places and never had any issues. In the app the GPS track of the activity is also not very straight, it’s jumping here and there.
Any suggestions on the black grid issue?

@sartoric ok, I’ll start reporting coordinates. But this is the first time I am seeing this since I own a Suunto watch.

@OutdoorMan it happened to me with 9b. Only a couple of times so hopefully it will be the same with you.
It has happened a few times since but only when I had not downloaded the map area…

@Audaxjoe I am not sure what was the trigger now - either when I downloaded map of Czech republic, or the update itself. One of them caused this black grid to appear. I didn’t have issue back then when multiple people were having this issue… so let’s see.

If after watch restart the same map loads okay then we now identified one cause and it should be fixed in the next watch firmware update -

Ive had this happen to me on nearly every single hike/walk that I use the map. Too often for me to share coordinates every time. Considering its been nearly 3 years since this was first reported, what is the main issue?

I know there already is a topic at (https://forum.suunto.com/topic/9741/black-grid-issue?_=1777389273886), but it has nearly 3 years without a fix. I took this watch on my first hiking trip and I had a horrible experience. There were many issues but this post will focus on the black grid issue. Every single time I used a route (or just looked at the map) there were a black grid. It was the normal to not see half the map or the whole map. I had to repeatedly zoom in and out to get the map to show. Doing this while hiking up 3k ft and trying to see the next turn was ridiculous. This makes navigation nearly useless which is the main reason I purchased this watch.
The other thread asked us to report coordinates, but throughout a 8 hour hike, 7 hours of that had black grid issues so I’m not going to report 1000s of coordinates.
