      Hi,

I have a Suunto Race with the 2.29.48 firmware version.
I bought the watch last week and charge it to 100% straightaway. I enabled the sleep tracking feature from 23:45 until 7:00am. The watch tracked my sleep normally (but not as good as my previous Garmin but that’s another story) everyday.

Yesterday, I went to sleep earlier than 23:45 with my watch at 35% of battery.
When I woke up today, the watch did not track the sleep nor the HRV nor the continuous heart rate.

Was it because the battery was too low? If so, it definitely should warns us that it won’t track all the metrics as usual.

Beside that, I must say that this watch is awesome… it still lacks some must-have features (ie: full home-trainer compatibility) have still some bugs (ie: double sounds notifications in structured training) but for a launch it’s really solid!

      UPDATE / SUMMARY - November 1st

There’s been some super insightful discussions here about how sleep tracking at Suunto actually works and how to set it up right.

A quick summary of the key outcomes:

      • If you want to have a more accurate sleep tracking, you should setup your rest HR correctly (aka your BPM when you sit doing nothing or so… aka more or less 10-15bpm above your average night HR) in your watch (Settings -> General -> Personal -> Rest HR)
      • The watch detects sleep automatically. The sleep schedule is just a DND schedule mode
      • The watch can detect naps (apparently, long ones only)
      • The bug I experienced was most likely software as the watch was also not tracking HR after waking up. A restart of the watch solved the issue.

Still, I really hope Suunto will provide better guidance (like a dedicated article maybe) about this feature AND will consider providing more options to the sleep/night feature as discussed here.

      Thanks!

@Pilok for sleep tracking work correctly for me, I need to set my daily resting HR (in the watch settings) to a value about 9-10 beats higher than my average nightly resting HR.

        • Average 7 day sleep Suunto Race: 7:07 h
        • Average 7 day sleep Ouraring: 6:52 h

15 min difference / weekly average is ok for me.

@Pilok said in Sleep tracking bug ?:

I enabled the sleep tracking feature from 23:45 until 7:00am.

This is unbelievable but I don’t see “Set the times for going to bed and waking up according to your usual sleep schedule.” like it is written in Suunto Race UserGuide So I have only toggle “Sleep tracking” without time. (Yes, then I have DnD time setting)

@ChrisA last night everything was tracked fine even with set minimum HR as resting HR (52 I think)

@sashaklepikov the Race does not need to set the usual sleeping time (only auto DND). In fact, it can detect sleep at any time (including naps). Old Suunto watches using the FirstBeat algorithms needed that.

@sashaklepikov great! 👍😃 - maybe it works without setting the HRs like I do. I did it this way, because it worked for me with other Suunto watches.

@isazi ah, okay, maybe user guide will be updated then (and this section was blindly copied from previous watches)

@wakarimasen not sure, sleep algorithms will change (no more firstbeat) but naps are (from what was revealed by reviewers) only for Race.

I’m probably already nitpicking but today sleep was tracked one hour less due to time change from summer time 🤔

What is more interesting - a nap was tracked very well yesterday. Even better than I expected

@isazi why is it only for race and not for vertical? Is it because of hardware differences or by decision?

@sashaklepikov Are you sure? My Race added an extra hour to my sleep time due to the time change. It seems correct for me.

@Mads-Hintz-Madsen it looks like a presentation issue at one place.

Here you can see that sum of awake, rem, light and deep is correct — 7h 26min

But in the title it is 6:30h (it is even not the difference between 07:31 and 01:06).

And the same data on the watch — correct breakdown and incorrect “title”

@sashaklepikov That’s interesting. As you can see below then an additional 1hour has been added to the total sleep time in the title.

One difference between you and me is that I fell asleep before midnight and you after midnight. Maybe Suunto hasn’t taken properly into account (when handling the summer/winter time transition) that someone might fall asleep after midnight.

Second night with the Race. First night sleep was tracked very well. This night sleep wasn’t track at all, same settings.
