Suunto Vertical WiFi setting

Due to the lack of a dedicated “Suunto Vertical” section, I posted this here.
I’m somewhat confused about the WiFi setting in the Suunto Vertical (SV?) and couldn’t find the answer in the manual.
Under Settings->Connectivity there is an option “Wireless network” with two options: Off and Automatic.
Off is pretty clear, but does Automatic means that it’s only enabled during map sync and off otherwise?

It seems that Vertical does not like any special characters in the SSID.
Don’t know if that’s a bug or due to a technical restriction. -
@lessthanmore possibly a bug, reported to Suunto already.
