[solved] Reboot during activities
-
Hi
Since a few days my S9 has randomly rebooted several times during the first 1-2 minutes of an activity. It happened once every 3 activities, I’d say. Very frustrating when I don’t pay attention fast enough.
I have the latest firmware.
Any idea ?
ThanksEdit (march 2023) : a firmware with a fix exists (but not deployed). I mark it solved.

@glaucidium-passerinum Before reporting a bug, are you using a custom sport mode? If so, it may be corrupted and you should delete and recreate it. If not, do a hard reset. This will eliminate all custom sport modes so take screenshots to recreate them. If after a hard reset you still have random reboots, send logs to Suunto as soon as it happens and PM me with your Suunto username and the date and time you sent logs. I will create a bug report.

@Brad_Olwin I have experienced the same several times already. With custom sport mode. It usually happens with the sport modes that use ETA / ETE and similar fields combined with SuuntoPlus. Interesting fact is that sometimes it works fine and sometimes it resets…
In cases of reset, I clearly observe that the watch is lagging - e.g. the duration field refreshes every like 3-4 seconds during the first minute of activity, then the watch restarts… The ETA / ETE fields are blank during that time…
I believe its just too many calculations together resulting in a crash…
But, I really don’t want to recreate my custom sport modes! First, it is extremely annoying. I use custom modes for everything and usually prefer as many fields as possible Second, I would blame custom modes if it would happen all the times. But it happens in ~ 10% of cases… I would blame more the current SuuntoPlus implementation. It never happens to me when I don’t use any SuuntoPlus app…

@Brad_Olwin @inkognito
Thank you for your answers.It happened on both custom sport (based on trail running) or original sport mode (plain walking). No apps used.
I just noticed by testing, after your answers, that indeed the display lags sometimes at the start of the activity (between 1 and 3-4 times for a few hundreds of ms each time).
I’ll let you know if the reboot happens again and I can get logs…
Thanks again

@glaucidium-passerinum Minor lags at the very beginning are probably quite normal. Watch initiates readings from all the sensors etc. But lag should stop within few seconds. In my case it really lasted for a minute and then the watch rebooted…

My S9 has been fine until this week.
First issue was a lag when starting a structured workout. I pressed the start button and it took about 15 seconds to move onto the activity screen. Then later in the day I started a standard walking activity. No lag on starting but the watch reset itself after a few minutes. I did a soft reset, tried again, and the activity worked as normal.
The next day I had the exact same issue with a reset in the first minute or so of a standard walking activity.
I’ve now done a hard reset and we’ll see what happens.

If you experience a crash, send logs to Suunto ASAP (after your exercise) PM me with your SA username (not the forum one if they are different) the time logs were sent, the approximate time of the crash. I will either append these to a current bug report or file a new report. -
@Brad_Olwin Thanks mate

I have experienced the issue described in the original post 3 times over last 2 weeks in a hiking mode.
Once I was able to notice that at the early beginning the timer on training screen has freeze for few seconds and then the watch went full restart.
I am using the latest version of the software and I’ve sent the journal using diagnosis tab of desktop application a minute ago. -
This Error also happend to me last week. i checked the agps and there was N/A. Maybe this caused the problem??
-
@StefanoMorgan It might, make sure you have a current AGPS by syncing with the Suuntoapp
-
@glaucidium-passerinum After a new reboot I’m doing a hard reset, I’ll let you know if it works.
For what it’s worth, this problem seems to have started a few days after my last firmware update.
-
@StefanoMorgan Was it before or after reboot? N/A after reboot that is normal since reboot erases assisted GPS data…
-
@inkognito OK good to know! I didn´t look before…

Hello all, I’ve had the similar issue that’s even intensified during the last two weeks, to the point that today Suunto Link asked me to reset the watch. I posted the question yesterday, and was redirected to this topic yesterday, so I think it would be interested to share my topic with some of you. The link is here:
I hope this can help solving the issue.

Happened to me again - twice within last 3 days, should we expect a bugfix anytime soon? Really I cannot depend on my watch right now as I have to wait 2-3 minutes into the training mode to verify if the watch does not go full reboot The reboot and GPS fix after the reboot takes like 5 minutes. Thanks for any info.
-
@fecek did you send logs after it happened? Please ping me in DM if you did.
-
Same here on custom running mode. (ETA / ETE aktivated)
4 crashes within last 2 weeks. Never crashed before last update.
Hardreset will not solve the issue.I will delete and recreate my custom mode, when it will not solve the issue i have to flash the previous “bug-free” firmware.
-
@Reiner I had the same issue. The watch was hard reset last week, and how the issue occurred again. Please keep us updated with flashing the previous firmware.

@chargerunner
I didn’t downgrade until yet, because i believe on an early fix by Suunto developers, like in the past. It seems like there are many users with the same issue.
Meanwhile i don’t use custom sport modes.
Deleting and recreate my custom modes hasn’t solve the issue.
