Is there a watch from Suunto that could display my running cadence right?
I have a problem with Suunto 5, described here: https://forum.suunto.com/topic/6597/running-cadence-only-half-most-of-the-time-running-steps-incorrect-too/50
Running cadence is only half most of the time. It is exactly half, it does not jump to random values (just randomly between the half and the correct value). When running, too little steps are counted, too. The problem is described better in the other thread.
Here is cadence graph from today’s run, which is quite ridiculous. I think the new firmware tries to learn which cadence is the right, and it is failing royally to choose the right one.
Steps are also counted very wrong when running. This was a 15,4 km run. Steps counted: 7650 (correct amount would be around 15400 steps).
I would really really Really like to have an easy way to track my running cadence, also
while running. I am able to recreate a correct cadence graph from a FIT-file, but that’s a drag with all the exporting and importing. And cannot do it while running.
I have had three S5 units, all have had the same problem, only minor differences about how bad the cadence jumping and steps miscounting is.
So, I’m thinking of buying another watch. Are there different kind of accelerator sensors for cadence and/or steps in:
- Suunto 5
- Suunto 5 peak
- Suunto 9 series (which ever)
Suunto 5 and Suunto 3 have this “context engine” in counting steps, Suunto 9 does not. Does this mean they have different sensors (otherwise I don’t understand why S9 does not use the context engine)?
I would like to stay with Suunto, as I have from 2013. But if new watches all use same accelerator sensor and same software, then they won’t give me the correct cadence. For a year I have been hoping they’d update the sw/fw but no luck. Now I’m prepared to spend money to finally get this fixed for me.
If you have any insight, please help
How do you wear your watch - loose or tight? Low or high? And do you have a proper left arm / right arm setting in the watch? What running profile do you use for running? Default? Custom? Battery mode?
I’ve never seen anything like your cadence plot.
Here’s my two random ones:
On one of my screenshots, there’s a problem in the beginning, but it’s ok after a few minutes.
