Re: Suunto 9 baro very low elevation gain vs other brands

Actually I have a Problem with the ascent/descent measurements. Look:

      Screenshot_20210621-215804.png

      About 1000 m too much!

      How could that Happen?

you can search for it in this forum… long story short: sensor holes were most likely covered with a sleeve or too tight strap and it sealed off on sweaty skin.
if you check the details of the alti graph you’ll notice several dips (down spikes) that accumulate to 1’000m more.
Could you share a screenshot of the graph?

@oliver-zamberger I don’t know if it’s correct for this case, but ascent and descent are the sum of meters you climbed and descended during your activity. Highest and lowest point are the min and max altitude,

For example if you start at 100m and climb to 150m, then descend to 130m and then climb to 200m your values will be like this:

          Min altitude: 100m
          Max altitude 200m
          Ascend: 120m
          Descend: 20m

@all Correct me if I’m mistaken

I know what you. The only Thing is, it never happened to me before. IT always worked fine. Also if th watch was partly covered too. I guess this is since last Firmware Update.

@surfboomerang Sure, I know what you mean… Every ascent and descent will be summed up. But like in my case it’s really too much 🤔

@dimitrios-kanellopoulos that wasn’t a Problem since the läßt Update. This is an expensive multisport watch and some sweat shouldn’t influence the Barometer. 🤔

Well … that’s hard due to physical limitation 😁

It’s not easy to fill it with water, but it can happen

@sartoric and today it happened again. The Barometer Was always free from sweat and not covered with anything. Descending but then suddenly the watch added about 20 m to ascend. So after the hike more than 100 m altitude (ascent/descent) are wrong. And Not any answer from the Support. That’s really annoying!

@oliver-zamberger Was the wach protected by a sleeve? In other words, could wind be a factor in this situation?

@oliver-zamberger Here is an example from this weekend. I was wearing an S9P on my left wrist and an S9baroTi model on my right wrist. I was carrying a handheld water bottle. On my right wrist by carrying the bottle my skin was blocking the baro hole on the S9bTi. Not the jagged altitude profile AND note the altitude is 2-fold off. There are two readings for the baro as I stopped the watch a few minutes into the run as it did not connect to the smartsensor.

@surfboomerang the watch wasn’t covered by anything. So the baro sensor was always free. Also there wasn’t really any Wind… But if Wind influences the Barometer this much to deliver wrong data, why it ever integrated into the watch🤔

Is there any possibility to deactivate the Barometer?

@brad_olwin i can See. It’s totally clear, that the the altitude can’t be 100% correct. But it isn’t ok, when it’s several 100 m incorrect.

And this appears to Happen most when ascending 🤔

@oliver-zamberger Wind does have an effect on pressure and altitude, but I don’t know to what extent.

This is data from a random windsurf session on flat water:
                                            2b70e886-b48e-4da0-a498-7bb8d07580dc-image.png

In the old Movescount days there was an option to select how pressure changes should be interpreted by the watch, but that option has been removed in SA unfortunately.
