bad GPS days? (satellite signals?)
-
Today I had no GPS connection with up-to-date AGPS file.
This happened in past a few times.
So I decided to do a hard rest.
But now: watch still does not find GPS…So question are there sometimes a few bad GPS days or bad AGPS file days???
I would bet that tomorrow everything is fine again like in the past…
Why is this?Did before hard rest a soft reset.
So AGPS was lost.
I could not find GPS connection with or without AGPS file…
Are there few bad GPS day??? no watch issue or issue? -
@mountainChris Shouldn’t we handle this under the other thread? My AGPS is updated every time and I do not have GPS connection issues. I think there is some underlying issue here. When the S9baro syncs with SA it takes time for the AGPS to sync, have you kept the sync screen on and waited until the GPS optimization is finished, then check the file? The only times I have had GPS fix require a long time is if AGPS is not there and if I have done a hard reset. After a hard reset even with a current AGPS it can take time but not usually longer than a minute or so.

yes everything up-to-date. I do not have it often. But today I could not find anything. So I decided to do the hard reset without result… It comes and it goes…
Watch can not find GPS /give confirmation after longer time… (with or without file)
It comes very random on few days…

@mountainChris There is something else going on here, as I have never had these issues. Let’s try to get to the bottom of it on this thread. Could you list watch firmware and phone OS, SA version. Also as of now, what is the date on the AGPS file.

I had many good days with this SA und Watch SW
Even with soft reset and without a AGPS file I could not get a GPS confirmation (green arrow) after 25 minutes. I now saw that track was recorded even without gps confirmation (green arrow) and GPS warning in the beginning…So interesting… I did nothing between yesterday evening an today morning.
–> GPS within 20 seconds (same conditions out of the door)So that was my question, are there bad GPS day (not a watch issue), where gps signals are bad and watch can not give confirmation…?
-
It usually takes few seconds on my S5, more if I’m on Galileo. Very rarely it takes around 20 - 30 seconds to get a fix, usually when I’m in dense forest or in a stormy weather or both.
-
Even after hard reset without agps I get a lock on 25seconds max.
I would suggest.
12s reboot
Sync with app
Wait about 15 minutes and see in general the GPS timestamp. It takes 15 minutes after reboot to populate the agps. So wait and confirm there is a date there.
Retry
-
@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos thanks. today same conditions. Did nothing GPS within 20seconds… So everything fine… yesterday strange… I will check, if it occurs again… Everything fresh with hard reset…
15min wait only after reboot? I can sync usually with APP and can go out 2 min later normally, right? this is how I do it…
-
@mountainChris yes friend 15mins (or less) it takes after reboot.
Here is why:
After reboot the watch tries to:
- Get and sync GPS time and altimetry using the GPS chipset.
- That can take up to 15 mins
At the same time you have synced (probably) new AGPS to the watch.
That will only be updated after the above 15min task completes.
Makes sense?
-
@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos I can confirm it!!
Some days ago I did a softreset and synced the AGPS and more or less I have this timing. I was a little bit pissed because I lost some km of my run, not registered, but at least now I know the reason.
So, thanks for the explanation!!
-
@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos right, very good to know thanks… explains a lot… what happens if I’m trying to connect GPS in Sports mode without AGPS after reboot? GPS busy due to altimetry and GPS time?
And could there be very few days, when I get no GPS confirmation in start screen with AGPS updated (only flashing green arrow, not continuous), because of satellite constellation (or system partly down…)?
-
@mountainChris About A yes. You should wait and not on the prestart screen.
That is only after a reboot.
About B it can be that. I am not sure, I had it rarely
-
@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos ok thanks… I also only rarely
what is interesting new to me also: seems to be a difference between APGS Update from Suunto link and APP… APP gave me not the 30-06 file now. Suunto link did the update to 30-06 …
-
@mountainChris Some cache? Internet?
-
@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos APP cache… maybe I should have closed the app before and open it again ok… But Suunto Link is also very comfortable because goes so fast…
-
@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos btw I forgot the date of next S9 update. Could you share once again?
-
@mountainChris 22-09-2020
-
@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos wohooo!!! 🥳
-
@mountainChris did you use Galileo? Just asking because there were issues with Galileo sats very recently. Anyway I never had issues with GPS fix, except once after a soft reset (I had to wait 10/15 minutes before getting a lock).

Tried both. Regularly GPS+beidoo… I had with agps a flashing green arrow. This is very very rare. Usually 99.9% GPS conformation within seconds. With the soft reset I made the situation worse. Now I know the 15min. Next time I will run in 0.1% with flashing green arrow (start screen)…
