Suunto 9 Baro Crashed During Exercise
-
Hi all.
I hope that you may help me to trouble shoot an issue that I experienced with my Suunto 9 Baro. Shortly after starting my run I felt a vibration from the watch and looked at the screen. The device appeared to reboot as the screen went completely black and the watch was unresponsive to button presses. Shortly thereafter the device turned back on to my usual watch face. When I look at the saved activity I also noted that it failed to account for any ascent.
For context, the watch is up-to-date on software and was charged to 100% just prior to the activity. At the time the watch was paired with a chest HR monitor and a Stryd power meter.
This is the link to the activity: https://app.suunto.com/move/matthewrobertson840/5ed69d934a07c9001ec7b6a1/
My question is what may have caused this issue and are there steps to help prevent it from occurring in the future?

You should send the log to Suunto and provide the ID of log to Dimitrios Kanellopoulos to get the deep analyse.
We, the folks from Suunto Community, cannot give you any useful information about a random crash.

@Matthew-Robertson Basically what @zhang965 said. I have had this happen maybe once or twice but never on production firmware. I would perform a soft reset of the watch, make sure your AGPS is up to date. If the crash occurs again, I would do a hard reset and reinstall the firmware. This will cause you to lose any custom sport modes you have created in SA and lose any unsynced moves.

@zhang965 and @Brad_Olwin - Thank you both for your recommendations.

@Matthew-Robertson I had exactly the same thing happen a few days ago whilst out running. After about 30 minutes I looked down after feeling a vibration from my watch to see it was back to the watch face and my activity had stopped. I restarted the activity but couldn’t get a GPS fix. All been fine since then, I did an hour or so last night with absolutely no issues. I’ve only recently switched to the 9 from a Spartan Ultra (which I do seem to remember did something similar when I first got it too).

@Matthew-Robertson and @JAHANDERSON
are you eventually using both SuuntoApp and MovescountApp in parallel ? it was the kind of issues it caused in the past. Should have been solved, but… -
hey guys, I am experiencing the same issue with my S9B. During a hike it crashed and the activity was saved without any ascent. In addiction it freezes almost four times a week with the classic arrow down and the dots, which proofs my nerves from crushing it under my feet. I tried the soft reboot and the hard way with the reset via suuntoLink. Nothing seems to work. Now my question is: Is the S9B faulty in general or is it just my model? I am still in the 30days from amazon and am sending it back… have to decide if I want to stick with Suunto or take a detour to G
-
@Mff73 Not that I’m aware of, only the SuuntoApp - though I did create a custom sports mode yesterday before running, which it then said it was disconnecting the watch from Movescount (which I hadn’t connected it too in the first place unless it does so automatically!)
-
really strange.
With Spartan Ultra it happened to me once, a few months after its release, in late 2016, when the software was really immature.
With s9, which I have been using for more than a year, however, it has never happened to me.
After sending the logs, if I were you I would do a hard reset directly -
@Vincenzo-Ucciero
it’s definitely not a general problem with this watch, but if you’ve tried hard reset and it happens so often, I think yours is malfunctioning.I would advise you to try to return it to amazon and have it replaced, before moving on to the G
-
So far, never happened to me. I have been using my S9 since August last year.
-
so it’s my watch then. I’ll send it over and give Suunto another try. thanks guys
-
@Vincenzo-Ucciero You have a faulty watch. I would return it to Amazon. I had 356 exercises in 2019 with my S9 and no crashes.
-
@Vincenzo-Ucciero S9 never crash for me. Amazon have to response for faulty unit.
-
One fellow is saying the same in a Facebook group, he updated Suunto app and the problem didn’t show again.
But for me S+ never crashed.

Perhaps I experienced a fluke. Subsequent runs went without a hitch.
