@johann-fuehrer
only 2minutes ago I thought about a new lounge topic: “what are pro’s and con’s when upgrading from ambit to s9b?”.So I’ll be the dumbass who really does it…
- con: WHR, what for? If I need reliable HR than I NEED a strap, if not - then I don’t need to know my HR anyhow, especially if I’m training by power zones.
- con: sleep tracking. what for? I wake up and know how I feel. I know if I’m recovered enough fo a slow jog or interval workout. Polar’s HR check once a day i.e. should be sufficient (at least fo an amateur like me) I’m not an Apple Watch/Garmin User whom needs to be told that he had slept 1,237 hours less than necessary to be (MAYBE) 74,85% recovered for a interval workout. And even a watch would be able to tell me exactly my health/recovery status, would I be able to do the perfect workout for my condition anyways?
- con: display: great in bright daylight, unusable for me in dim conditions. Backlight is nothing more than a “candle in the wind” (sorry Elton)
- con: touch screen. WHY? And: WHY NOT THE BUTTONS ADDITIONALLY. Suunto has the BEST responding and quality buttons on a sports watch I have seen (ask Garmin users, i.e. FR935/F945 - had both - horror)
- con: BARO compared to Ambit 2
- con: some minor things, like foot pod calibration still not possible, … and less important stuff
- con: still does not match Ambit 2/ Ambit 3 in GPS track quality
- con: need to reboot watch to get rid of notifications removed on iPhone
- con: no ANT+ anymore
Now some good stuff:
- pro: Smart Notifications, I MISS them badly on my Ambit 2
- pro: UI is pretty, cool and I like it
- pro: WHR for those who needs this
- pro: exchangeable straps
- pro: design, slimmer, nicer, not that bulky, softer straps!!!
I will not discuss here the App, there are enough other threads for that …

@johann-fuehrer
thanks mate -
I have ambit3p ssu and 9b
To get the newest watch for me is just keeping the blood fashion, over.
Pro: It’s the flagship from suunto

That’s no “pro” it’s just a fact … and will change …
-
@johann-fuehrer
it’s why I have all 3 flagship -
@zhang965
you’re a collector, not a hunter?
if I buy another flagship I get rid of the one I like less… same with skis, bikes and boardsbut what does the community think of pro’s and con’s of s9b and a3p?
I know some things about s9b and I know a3p pretty well I think (even though I’m new to navigation and never used poi and structured intervals YET(!!)).
let’s put SA and MC in brackets, we know that s-line is SA and ambit MC and it will not change. -
Why flagship is not a part of pro?
I’m working in a crowded client site, we have to make friends and set up our teams, wearing a flagship is always a good way to go,
When you meet an ambit guy, I could say it’s a wise decision
Meet an ssu guy I could share my experience to tell him upgrading is not necessary.
Meet an fenix guy we could have a drink to cheers we are flagship guys -
WHR -> Perhaps for those that want to know 24/7 data, although I understand that atm you can only see it on the watch which is kinda not complete.
And running sometimes at hot temps (that it works well) without a strap and having then later that tan line (Strap user here) -
What you are not a geeky sport guy but a luxury boi? I have too wrists, my another hand has a mechanical watch
-
Con: Ascent and total ascent not that accurate as Ambit 3 and Spartan Ultra
Con: GPS+GALILEO shows a good track, but although the speed during an activity is constant it changes permanently with peaks in both directions, high and low
Con: OHR not usable while cycling or kayaking, because of false readings -

@zhang965 To be the “flagship” product is no quality definition for the product itself, especially for some user groups of. It’s a marketing term. I’s not “negative” or “positive” to be the flagship product, but it has the meaning, that this is (for now) the company’s “best” and “way leading” product.

Of course it has quality definition, how about to call s5 as flagship ?

Of course I can use a chest belt. But my Mi Band 4 is able to show the correct heart rate with OHR during cycling. 35 Euro vs. 500 Euro.

Maybe a misunderstanding: I’m sure that each companies flagship product should have also outstanding quality, but the combination of features!!/price!/quality!! and the business orientation define for a company which product they position as their “flagship” product. The flagship product shall tell the costumer which is the way the company is going to and which product is the manifestation of this way right now

I agree with you about you the ohr on s9 is a totally joke but it’s just an option
