Pros/Cons of Suunto 9 BARO * ONLY * be fair and polite!

@TELE-HO Bravo. And as you give, so should you receive. What goes around, comes around. Etc.

hereās another comparison of S9B vs A3PS with same settings. This time the chest strap was connected to A3PS and OHR was used with S9B to check for differences between the two types of HR measuring.
At home Iāve changed manually by purpose the altitude to the wrong value of around 650m in both watches to check what they do with FusedAlti.
S9B got a start alti of 481m, A3PS has 472m. The total ascent of S9B was 146m and A3PS 159m.
Swiss Topo Map shows at my start point 472m.
The alti profile of both recordings look similar, and the offset from start is constant throughout the activities. I donāt know why S9B shows a more nervous graph but still has less meters total ascent. Does it measure the alti more often?! A3PS looks much āsmootherā.
Distance S9B: 7.74km, A3PS: 7.79m.
Between km 3 and 4 I purposely went once around a big treeā¦ S9B did not recognize this circle, A3PS did.The HR graph in my opinion is differing, too. But for me itās good enough. In general I will use the strap anyway, because of less battery consumption and better measuring precision. I noticed that S9B was often a bit higher and took longer time to show lower HR values when the trail changed from up to downhill.
Itās interesting to see these differencesā¦ BUT I must say that I would believe both.
The start altitude of A3PS nailed itā¦ could be coincidence or pure precisionhttps://quantified-self.io/user/jBm0qOhihUMykVYD8HBJMshQrJc2/event/A60PtzTC8ofZ20ZyQpqZ

@TELE-HO The tree was a nice touch. Interesting.

Thanks! That is a good comparison!
One reason why S9B may have a more nervous graph is that it logs elevation every 1 second vs 10 seconds for A3P. But that still doesnāt help with more accurate total ascent.

very 1 second vs 10 seconds
I suspected this but Iāve had something in memory that it is not adjustable anymore because 10sec would make more senseā¦ but I obviously recall this wrongā¦

After one week with the S9 baro, and comparing it to the SSU:
Pros:
- Battery life/Battery modes
- OHR (for who uses it)
- Better tracks
- Firstbeat stuff (for who uses it)
- Nicer (personal opinion)
- Buttons (I feel them more robust)
Cons:
- GPS lock is extremely slow comparing to the SSU, even with the AGPS updated. I mean, with the SSU and an updated AGPS the lock is done in less than 10 seconds, with the S9 I have needed 30 seconds, and today more than 5 minutes with the AGPS up to date. All this, checking in the same spot. I need more activities to see if its the normal behavior.
-
@cosmecosta doesnāt seem normal, mine gets the green GPS light in seconds, unless Iām moving to a complete different location.
-
@cosmecosta
Afair the GPS lock is slower the firs times -
@isazi and @sartoric Well, maybe is something punctual, today when I finished my run I tried again run and got the green arrow within the normal time (as I use to have with the SSU). As I said, I need more activities to have it more clear, but my feeling, after one week, is that it is slower.
Iām not worried, at least yet.
-
after each reboot or FW update the GPS will take more time to lock.
Indeed it can up to 3mins imo but all the rest is less 10s

I love my Suunto 9 baro. Have owned both T6, Ambit and Ambit 3 peak. But after a few days of use and some clarifying questions here on the forum, the Suunto 9 baro and the new Suunto app have set a new standard.
The only thing I now want is an overview of time spent in different HR zones for the week, month and year, in the app -
nice to read positive feedback from old users, like me. Even for me suunto 9 and suunto app are a great match and can only improve. We look forward to the update with the MC style views and the one where weāll be able to manage waypoints and POIs

@Saketo-Nemo
yes, S9B is almost perfect, while SA has a bit more room for improvement, but for me QS compensates the lack of SA (and SA web end).Most of you might have seen that Iāve started a summary list of further FW improvements for S9Bā¦ hereās the link, just in case youāre interested or want to add something

The first time after the FW update, it took a long time. But subsequently, I find the GPS locks much quicker than pre-FW update.
-
@azeanic
the same for me and, I think, the same for all. fw update note says it -
@cosmecosta Something wrong there, mine locks faster than my A3P used to, within 1 to 3 sec.
-
Thanks to all. I did some test this afternoon and the GPS lock was within 10 or less seconds. I guess I had something wrong with the previous AGPS, and after todayās run it was fixed.
Again, thanks to all!!

@Brad_Olwin
I think your watch is used to being connected rather than disconnected
I did not count seconds with my watch but it is pretty fast.
