S9 Baro takes very long to find GPS signal before a move
-
@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos is on performance; and I am a little frustrated but mostly surprised. Simply waiting for an update (watch not SA … but who is not ) somehow expecting to see a miracle happen.
-
@Shrek3k its a bit strange that it takes time to be honest. I have not experienced that.
-
trying to reset all settings from suuntolink?
-
@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos me neither (At least not with Suunto … but very often with Garmin), especially frustrating that my wifes Ambit 3 is so much faster and exact, when synced at the same time and even used during the same activity (running together)
-
@Shrek3k is that after a soft reset? Because after a reset of the watch (12s upper button) it will take longer…
Perhaps your watch softresets it self?
You can chec kthat via the pressure chart if it has gaps.
-
@Saketo-Nemo no, as I usually sync with SA during workdays (I am a weekly commuter without PC during the week), might check in the next days when there are no changes …
-
@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos where can I find the pressure chart?
-
@Shrek3k altitude card -> go right
-
seems that I can’t offer / use that chart as I have the “simple version” (aka non-baro).
-
@Shrek3k check 24/7 hr
-
@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos I am really grateful for your assistance, and I hope that I understand you correctly … as I am not using the any of the 24h-capabilities (sleep / HR) as I have no need at all for any of them (add to this opion, that these data could/would be collected but not interpreted in a meaningful way as far as I understand), so I might not be able to check there either if there are any ‘automatic’ resets
-
@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos Checked it and it was appr. 3 weeks old.
Did a soft reset and voila - GPS optimization started during next sync. Thanks!
-
@MaxiPalle That should solve the problem. My S9baro acquires a fix in about 5 sec.
-
Today, synced with SA, checked the GPS-file, left the car, had a GPS-fix in the small parking lot (the usual open terrain with low trees around, no buildings, no hills) in approx 60 seconds … better than usual … for me and my S9 … (last GPS fix before on Friday less than 20km away … same procedure, much bigger parking lot, approx 60 seconds, too)
-
@Shrek3k
Out of curiosity, have you tried to check visible satellites using the mobile ?
Just to check the “sky” quality. Maybe there are only few satellites visible -
@sartoric excellent idea, I will (re)install an app capable of doing that. Might need a few days for a proper test, as my next run(s) will be in the centre of Brussels, and there is no way, that I will blame a slow satellite pick-up on the watch under that circumstances … but / and Imight use Glonass for the first time ever …
-
@Shrek3k hi. I’m also belgian. Never had any trouble with gps fix on my spartan trainer. Always a fix straight out the front door in a second. Couple of weeks ran in meerdaalwoud near bruxels in a dens forrest. No problems what so ever.

This has been a problem for me too since end of April. It looks like A-GPS data (satellite almanac) update is no longer updating reliably, at least when syncing to Movescount. A soft reset fixes that temporarily, but after a week or two the problem repeats. Currently AGPS date on my watch is 2019-06-06.
-
@silentvoyager this sounds really very similar to my issue … I am somehow “feeling” (how to really prove this feeling? No clue) that the A-GPS in the (= my) Suunto 9 currently might not be used in the way it should be used - and has been used before.
And as I am using SA (weekdays and weekends) and MC (weekend)I can’t narrow down the possibilities if and/or which part possibly corrupts or limits the A-GPS … if this is the case at all … -

I have an SSU as per right know my AGPS is dated on 2019-06-17 and on Friday it was 2019-06-14, so you AGPS is out of date. Something is wrong and is not updating your AGPS.
