Hello,
Due to the new addition to the family (new born baby) R2 does not recognize my sleep pattern to well which can be understandable.I would like to ask if during naps watch can take HRV measurements which it does not do right now?
-
@Elad-Solomon Taking a measurement during a nap might be an idea, but unfortunately I don’t think it would be very useful since there are many factors throughout the day that can affect HRV. A temporary workaround would be to use an app like Kubios or Elite HRV and take a quick reading first thing in the morning, right after you wake up (but even there I doubt will be useful or at least it wasn’t for me during those sleepless nights)
BTW, congrats!

@snow i thought that suunto measures HRV because of the Ressourcen widget the whole day

@GiPFELKiND I did comparative testing of my own algo mimicking Garmin’s Body Battery (analogous to Resources), and found that HRV wasn’t as impactful as I thought.
Loose concept is a four-way charge/drain mechanism:
- Sleep - charge
- Wake - not moving - low drain
- Wake - not moving but slightly increase HR - higher drain
- Exercise - higher drain
The functionality is dependant on having an accurate max HR, which can be a challenge (and where Garmin’s constant max HR estimation can be helpful).
@elad-solomon here’s a peak at a nap with mine: it goes up, but not by a lot. Basically, and not to dismiss your needs, but worry about the baby and not a very fragile fictional estimation of your resources.

@snow thanks!
The Naps are actually sleep during night that are broken into pieces I dont actually find resources useful, I use HRV during sleep to track how my body handle stress of no sleeping at all over broken sleep and plan forward, sure I use HRV elite but HRV elite is taken while you are awake not while you are a sleep which usually lower .

@Ze-Stuart hey, the naps are actually what I slept at night not an actual nap, the body battery Or resources are not really a thing i usually go by how I physically feel. The hrv is for me to know how my body actually handle the “sleep” stress over time to keep planing my sleep alongside taking care of my new born, the HRV is the most important piece of Data you can can during sleep in order to know how you body handle the stress, while you might feel “good” but HRV will give you different picture.

@Elad-Solomon ah I misunderstood, sorry! Based on my understanding of how Suunto calculate HRV, it’s done with one reading every 10m when sleep is detected, else it’s used to calculate resources.
A single morning reading, while sitting up, is probably the best way to go. It’ll need a new baseline due to the change in methodology, but I can’t think of another way to do it. Marco Altini has a lot of data supporting the single morning reading while sitting up.

@Ze-Stuart yes I have used elite HRV for some time and then stopped.
Unfortunately currently that’s how my nights looks like and the watch does not recognize those as sleeps.
Hence why enabling HRV during long naps could be beneficial. – ms
