I would like to request the possibility to manually control rest periods in pool swimming mode on the Suunto Vertical 2.
At the moment, rest starts automatically when you stop swimming, and a new interval is triggered as soon as you start moving again.
While this may feel convenient for occasional swimmers, it is not practical for athletes who train regularly in the pool.
Practical issues:
- it is never clear how much you can move during the rest without triggering a new interval;
- small movements at the wall immediately start a new repeat;
- structured rest periods (e.g. 15–20 seconds, active recovery, breathing control) become difficult to manage.
Suggested improvement:
- allow the LAP button to control rest and work phases;
- press LAP to start the rest;
- press LAP again to start the next interval.
This behavior is standard on swim-focused devices and would significantly improve:
- workout control;
- interval accuracy;
- real usability for structured pool training.
The automatic mode could remain available, but manual rest control should be an optional setting.

Good point!
I like to validate my swim reps with the help of elapsed time. But reps cant be cumulated in the swim app under one interval since autolap accounts every effort. Autolap cant be deactivated.
I really like my V2, and dont want to go back to Gatmin but their pool swim app was better for good swimmers who change styles, drill and kick. Kick is never detected by a watch (no brand does). I wish laps can be started and stopped manually to include these into laps.
Another thing is missing me is a three second decount before start when pause button is pressed.
Another good thing present on G swim app is : At the end of a manually stopped lap, a customizable pause screen is appearing.
I think a good pool swim app should include those. -
Well done, Suunto. Feature implemented!
