Software Update 2.40.38 (2025 Q1)
-
I realized, that I don’t have clock/time at the top of the display while doing strength activity. Don’t know if it was there before, but should be according to preview in SA. While running or walking, the time is there. Suunto Race.

@thanasis I can not confirm this with my Vertical. 2% per day (no 24/7 HR and sleep)
I’m using the new athlete watch face -
@surfboomerang Same for me : no particular battery drain on both my SRs and SV, also using new watchfaces
-
No battery drain on Vertical. Same battery drain on S9PP (20% per day), the update didn’t help, unfortunately.

This problem seems to have started with the previous update. Why can’t I turn on only “24/7 wrist HR” without turning off sleep tracking at the same time? Now I am forced to either turn off both at once or turn on both at once which takes more time. Previously, this could be done separately and leave, for example, sleep tracking which still did not bother and did not consume more power. Does anyone have an idea why I am forced to set the time every time I turn on sleep tracking?
An update:
My problem boils down to the question: can I somehow leave the sleep tracking settings untouched and only manage my 24/7 wrist HR? It was possible and very easy to do before this update. Please tell me that’s a simple bug and will be fixed. -

Improved turn-by-turn notification logic
Today was my first chance to try the new turn-by-turn navigation logic during a trail run and I should say I am quite disappointed. I provided some critique of the previous turn-by-turn implementation - it had some flaws and was confusing, but still functional once you understood how it worked. In contrast, the new “improved” logic is simply not functional.
There are two issues that make it borderline useless:
-
There is a single notification that, as I understand is supposed to come up 20 meters before the turn. That is 62 feet - I saw that number on the watch a few times. But in reality it usually popped up just a few meters before the turn (typically less than 5 meters) and in one case it came up after I had already turned. I wasn’t running that fast - perhaps around 9:30-10 min/mile or about 6 min/km. That is roughly 2.5 meters per second. With that speed, if it came up 20 meters before the turn it would stay up for 8 seconds. But in reality the notification usually disappeared in 1-2 seconds - as soon as I actually reached the turn. Unless I was specifically watching for the notification because I knew where all the turns were, I usually missed it. And let me mention that when running on a technical terrain, especially if it is a downhill, it is not always possible to take the eyes off the trail and look at the watch.
-
Outside of those 1-2 seconds when the turn notification is shown, there is absolutely no indication of where the turns are. Most of the time the watch shows the distance to the end of the route (or I supposed a distance to the next waypoint) at the bottom of the map. This simply won’t do when running in a completely unfamiliar place.
I much preferred the way the way it was implemented previously - the next turn always being shown at the bottom of the map with the remaining distance. I understand that that makes it impossible to also see distance to next waypoint. But that is exactly why next waypoint should have its own dedicated screen with additional details like the waypoint name, the remaining distance, the elevation difference, ETE, etc.
Please change the map to the previous behavior. And then on top of that the notification should come up a bit early so that there are 5-10 seconds to see it. Or perhaps the notification should come up twice - some distance before the turn and then again right at the turn.

Thanks for your insight. Your battery is currently terrible (like some others, and unlike other others).
If you don’t mind a non defensive comment, maybe still and again, come back with your battery evaluation after a full discharge/charge? (just a peaceful trouble shooting advice) -
Another night past and today opening the app/widget triggered the storing of the sleep tracking again. I guess I’ll just continue opening the app/widget after waking up in the morning for the time being…
Sidenote: HR tracking during the night always works. -
@sky-runner Also the arrow for the direction should be a little bit larger. I really like the fact, that it’s not longer full screen, but the current style is too small for my eyes. It’s really hard to see. Especially, if it appears a second before you have to turn.
-
@thanasis Try taking it to the Suunto service center to have the battery output checked so you can eliminate any doubts about whether it’s a hardware issue… For me, the daily battery consumption is no more than 2%-3%, (same wathface) but I have all daily features like heart rate monitoring and notifications turned off.

And @Mff73 you are right about needing to let it discharge . I should also need to highlight that the
Basic - default watch face seems to be different . I will report in 10days again -

@thanasis very weird, tried multiple times and I don’t have this issue.
coming back to this.
i still have it and is getting worse. In every single activity i log the click directs to delete and i have to click the upper button to view the detailsalso, the reboot doesn’t help
EDIT: it seems that if you leave the focus to the activity’s first part a bit longer (2-3 sec) , the problem does not appear, but entering the activity and immediately clicking the bottom button , goes immediately to the delete.
It’s as if the details in between have not been loaded yet and the bottom takes you to the first available action (delete)

This I also noticed today, running somewhere new, I had no concept of how far it was to the next turn (and then only got a notification with a couple of seconds to go), so I had the map open way more than usual.
Plus as noted, since turns are no longer waypoints, this makes distance/time en route to waypoint fields redundant, which is a shame, as it was super useful.

@thanasis
I confirm this behaviour when clicking at a certain pace down, it is going directly to delete. -
@thanasis I have exactly the same experience. Just wait few seconds until all activity data is processed and then by pressing down button you get to the overview of your activity as it should be.

On todays trail run using custom made profile the red trail on maps did not work at all. Watch Suunto vertical updated to latest version. Worked just fine on the previous watch version. Sent logs of someone is interested
-
Third night without sleep tracking after update to the last firmware. Nothing seems restarting the tracking ; very disappointed. So I am back to the previous firmware to see if it works again. Let’s see tomorrow morning.
-
So final answer, back to 2.39.44 and one night after without any other action, sleep tracking is working again.
2.39.44 : works fine
2.40.38 : 3 nights didn’t work despite many actions (stop/start watch, stop/start sleep tracking,…)
2.39.44 : works fine again
Conclusion : I will wait for next update to see if really sleep tracking bug/issue is solved.
