Pause activity during map navigation / Zonesense
-
One of of the first things I noticed when trying maps out on the Race S (which was the specific selling point for me), was that I can’t pause my current activity whilst in the maps view. I have to cycle through the various screens to get to the activity screen, and then pause.
Coming from Garmin, where the pause button is always(?) available, it was maddening having to look at my watch and press 4 buttons to pause, rather than just muscle memory tap one button. Especially as the pause/top button doesn’t seem to do anything in maps anyway!!
I found another post on this but couldn’t find it as specific “feature suggesting”, so posting here.
EDIT: I also noticed the same issue occurs during ZoneSense: https://forum.suunto.com/topic/12512/pause-activity-during-map-navigation-zonesense/7?_=1740580872443

For 9PP users (which is what I know) up to the 2.35.34 Q2-2024 update, you could stop/pause the current activity on any screen, including, of course, the navigation screen (the 9PP doesn’t have maps but it’s the same thing).
In a way that is absolutely incomprehensible to me, from that point on, you can’t.
And it’s not something I’ve gotten used to living with, no, on the contrary, I still find it irritating and annoying. Because it’s dysfunctional and irrational.
Obviously I would be happy if Suunto ever comes up with a solution to this problem.

@enriqueescoms fully agree!! I do not get used to it no matter how many times I navigate and need to pause the activity… it is always annoying.

Isn’t the top button used to zoom/pan the map during navigation?
EDIT: Sorry I was speaking about my Vertical! Race(s) indeed has the wheel for zoom/pan, I think.

this will come with one of the next updates

i also noticed that sadly the ZoneSense screen also doesn’t let you pause the current activity. it feels like the pause button should always be ‘live’ during activities - at least that’s how it’s always been in other sports watches. you shouldn’t need need to look at your watch and navigate around to pause/unpause, as it’s something you’d want to do quickly, and without looking.
(within zonesense the pause/top button navigates various views of the zonesense data, but i feel like they could instead be handled as options for that app rather than something that needs to be available mid-activity. Or maybe just multiple screens of zonesense that are navigated by the middle button as normal)

@dankcushions I didn’t even know that there are multiple views…
