Parallel Use Of Movescount + Suunto app
-
Hi guys we are really again loosing the scope here. Did you read my thread?
I asked about the people who actually use both in a case that we could have both running at the same time.
Please stick to it.
Thanks

@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos SA for now: Just to see metrics, graphs, tracks and social sharing. Customization is more comfortable to do in web. And is a thing that i don’t change everytime. Routes planning is also more comfortable to do in web as i told you before. But if the routes that i have in MC web were in SA it will be easy to transfer for watch via BLE.
-
@Luís-Pinto Thats kidna what I wanted to know. Thanks!
-
One more time:
I am trying to build a case that we users can use both platforms at the same time till things you want coming in SA.
So I am trying to help you. II am tired of that and I am just a person trying to help you get the most out. Just by asking again the same requests in any post related to MC the only thing you could possibly achieve is not achieving what this post is about.
Once more. This is not a feature request or how things should be post. We have a dedicated category for that, you can go and vote there freely.
-
@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos And we have to be grateful for your commitment! I’am! Just said with honesty about what I use or not. Luckily we are not all the same! You will receive contributions of another users. Just don’t consider data sync between platforms as feature.

Thanks @Luís-Pinto can I ask what do you mean with :
Just don’t consider data sync between platforms as feature.
? -
@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos i don’t consider data travelling that should be on a cloud (like moves history+routes+definitions of person+data customization fields) as a feature. What i want to say is, live data unity in whatever platform that you use (MCweb+MCapp+SA).

I am using both the beta app and Movescount on an iPhone 7.
Here my anwers:
I sync to the App first, wait, until it is fully done, then force close the app and open the MC app to sync there. No problems so far.- Did you have any crashes?
–> Yes, my watch crashes if I stop one app before it has finished syncing and open the other one. - Did you get any confusions about what SportModes come from Movescount and what from the Suunto app?
–> I refrained from adjusting sport modes in the app and have this left to MC so far. - Did you get messed regarding the route sync?
–> I have also refrained from syncing routed from the app and keep using MC for this until there will be an approved solution… - How would you feel if you could use both apps?
–> I would like to only use one app that would sync to the other internally. Lacking this feature is the only reason for me using both apps atm.
- Did you have any crashes?
-
- Did you have any crashes?
Crashes of the apps no.
2 crashes of the watch, maybe related to the new firmware - Did you get any confusions about what SportModes come from Movescount and what from the Suunto app?
Since, I am afraid to actually break MC syncing from the cable, I did not use any new features from SA. - Did you get messed regarding the route sync?
Again, no new routes from SA but I was pleasantly surprised to see (and be able to delete) my routes from MC in SA. - How would you feel if you could use both apps?
That would be so great, for once, I could then recommend SA to alot of people, since it is superior from MC app but has no strava intergration.
Also, it would allow me to play with SA without fear of the consquences.
One reason for not using the SA new features, was not knowing about the unofficial workaround.
- Did you have any crashes?
-
@Yannis-Belouris thanks.
Since Strava will come this and next week (or even earlier) would you then this:since it is superior from MC app but has no strava intergration.
Be quite different?

If this comes, then the only thing for a meaningful analysis still missing from SA is the display per custom or interval laps.
And I am thinking of a friend. I am more of a web based guy and I will always prefer my 27" monitor to see and analyse.
Still, simultaneous SA and MC would be the bees knees. -
@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos Using both after having discovered SA background sync via PhoneGap for certain activity types is somewhat lacking (treadmill gets sync’ed as unspecified, with everything but summary and heart rate data lost). To answer your questions:
- No crashes, but had my new shiny S9 freeze when both SA and MC apps were opened and MC tried to sync with it for the first time
- No confusion as far as sports modes / routes are concerned. I try to read the warnings
- No, played with it extensively in SA, but haven’t synced (thanks for the warnings!)
- As a temporary solution it is acceptable, but things need to be straightened out
Technically, even though I absolutely love what I’m seeing in new builds of SA, there are several things that prevent me from completely switching to it:
-
Sync: I’m not using Strava or Training Peaks, but would like to send my data to Polar and Sports Tracks. PhoneGap accomplishes that and I’m fine with sync via PhoneGap, but as mentioned above, it’s broken due to the limitations of the legacy backend platform for SA
-
Routes: there are some MC features for route building like close the start point or loop back that are missing me thinks; also, routing isn’t as tight as in MC, I had some corners cut, which could represent a problem for trails, especially when there are multiple unmarked ones
The rest, like workout planner, I can live without for now.

Would you be fine with an OpenAPI from SA that you can eg connect to IFTT etc? (perhaps till partners also help?)
Also in regards to routes there are enhancements coming next up

I stopped using both apps some time ago. Two weeks ago I got the new iPhone and I thought I could try the parallel use again. I had crashes before because I too often used them parallel in a tight time frame. Now I let some hours pass and have no problems with crashes or anything.
- Did you get any confusions about what SportModes come from Movescount and what from the Suunto app?
Haven’t tried that yet, simply because I did not know that that works…
- Did you get messed regarding the route sync?
See above.
- How would you feel if you could use both apps?
I’d love to use both, since there is no way the SuuntoApp syncs to the Movescount website, and I think we all agree that the data shown on the Movescount website is the best for our needs, may they also vary from one user to the other a lot.
Strava is great and all, but as a long-time user of Movescount since 2010 or 2011 I am so used to see my moves there, analyse them and plan my routes. -
@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos I suppose Open API works. Perhaps, I can also get an account on Strava. It becomes harder and harder to avoid it. Technically, even GPX export would work as long as it contains all data.
Does anybody know if Endomondo knows how to treat additional data streams like EPOC, temperature, power that S9 is capturing? I don’t think they display them, but as long as they pass them on – I used to have an Endomondo account too.
-
@NickK GPX cannot contain advanced data or is structured well to support complex things eg lap pause times and more. TCX can even be worse, FIT allows developer fields that every service could read eg EPOC etc.
-
I’m using MC on PC through Suunto link just so I can use maps to create or use other users routes. I’m not using MC app on phone. If SA adds feature to import routes or use other available routes I probably wouldn’t use Movescount at all.
Did you have any crashes?
Not really, SA crashed maybe a couple of times, but that’s insignificant.Did you get any confusions about what SportModes come from Movescount and what from the Suunto app?
I just tried SportModes customization in SA beta, but I had to reset watch because of Routs import from MC webDid you get messed regarding the route sync?
Yup, I tried feature in beta, but had to factory reset S9 just so I can do route sync from MC webHow would you feel if you could use both apps?
I would switch to SA and forget about MC the moment it adds just a couple of features that I miss. Really like the SA, it would be great if the development was faster. -
@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos Yes, you are right about GPX. Totally forgot it was kind of stripped down and more navigation centric. I suppose if push comes to shovel, I’d go with Strava and hope for the best.

Hi there great community here!
I NEED you help and experience.
As you know once you use the “new” features of the Suunto app such as sport mode customization and route sync you get disconnected from Movescount (You have a message+button consent).
However, I know that a lot of use do still use both apps in parallel. That is done by syncing first with the Movescount app (even if you have disconnected as said above) and then with the Suunto app.
That kinda goes against the rules but that is ok. We are all doing this including me.
The reason of this post is to know and collect your experience when you do that.
- Did you have any crashes?
- Did you get any confusions about what SportModes come from Movescount and what from the Suunto app?
- Did you get messed regarding the route sync?
- How would you feel if you could use both apps? (Provided that Suunto app has Strava, Training peaks, Endomondo, GPX import, Heatmaps for all and new sharing options)
P.S. The reason behind this is to be able to perhaps lift this “restriction” as it has costed a lot of trouble, so I really need your feedback ideas and so on.
Thanks a lot and please focus on the subject. No structured intervals posts please
-
No crashes
-
If I customize Sportmodes in SA they are replaced by MC sport modes and lost from SA. MC sport modes dominate
-
Routes from MC and SA appear present
-
Once Training Peaks is implemented I will quit using MC app but…I would like planned moves to come to SA as I use this feature.
-
We need GPX import into SA…this is critical!
If the web MC had upload capabilities it would make it easier as some of us like to keep data in MC.
My experience is iOS only.

I was waiting for a post like this for a long time. Thank you very much @ Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos
I used MC and SA at the same time. The truth is that I reviewed data in MC and others in SA. They were a little complicated but I managed.
Accept the new functions to be able to use SA to see how I could work with it alone and hoping that from that moment the updates of SA would be faster and that they would be adding the functionality that if there was in MC.
Did you have any crashes?
Not the truth is that SA has been stable for a long time and works well.Did you get any confusions about what SportModes come from Movescount and what from the Suunto app?
Not all right. Just point out that I would like to have some more screen like the graphic cardiac frequency, but it is not the post.Did you get messed about the route sync?
Yes, I did it and it works well. But it is very complicated to make a route in the phone (on touch when you make manual entries), and does not allow to add routes through GPXHow would you feel if you could use both apps?
If you add to SA all that you indicate MC should be lost little by little. Only totals, statistics or values such as VO2 would be missing.I would appreciate a Web access enough to be more comfortable working with SA.
@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos thank you for listening to us. I know that we make it complicated because we all want more and faster and in IT this is very difficult.
