Issue with lost custom sport mode after any firmware update (any workaround?)
-
This is happening on both my Vertical and Race S. It is not specific to a particular update. Searching through this forum I see that it happens with other watches as well for at least the last 5 years. Clearly though it is not impacting everyone, or I would have expected it to be corrected already.
My setup is typically 6 custom sport modes (Running, Cycling, Trail Running, Hiking, Walking, Kayaking). All standard sport modes removed. Almost after every update I will lose 1 of the 6. It is not always the same sport mode though.
So while waiting for a suunto fix, I’m trying to determine a workaround/pattern.
For example, if I just leave it at 5 does it go down to 4 (then 3, etc.) or does it just remove 1 once and if I leave it alone from there, I’m good. Also wondering if it is the least used activity at time of update that gets deleted.
So a workaround might be to create a 7th sport mode and make sure it is the least used. At least this is what I am trying for now (for next update).
What setups do people have that are not having a problem? Also, those that do have this problem are you aware of a workaround?
Thanks

@fritzbt2013 I have 4 or 5 custom sport modes. Typically, I do not lose any of them when updating. Fieldtesters get at least one update per week so lots of testing on this. Occasionally I will lose my custom sport modes but when they are lost all are lost. Your case seems somewhat unusual.

@fritzbt2013 I have also noticed what you describe.
I usually have 4 custom sport modes (Running, Running Interval, Cycling, Hiking).
Once again after latest update, one of these custom sport modes has been deleted (I don’t remember which one).
I don’t know why, it doesn’t really bother me as it takes 2 minutes to set up a new custom sport mode but it would be nice if that issue doesn’t occur.
Right after latest update, I decided to delete all my custom sport modes and recreate them. I will see how it behaves after the next update and keep you posted. -
@fritzbt2013 I can confirm that it is the least used custom activity that gets deleted. I recently got back to using my Vertical and had 4 custom activities (only). I noted which one was at the top on the watch (the least used). I then performed the update, and it was gone, and I was down to 3 activities.
I’ll continue to keep track of this, but it’s pretty easy to reproduce the problem and I would think Suunto could solved this fairly easily (if there is a good way to submit the issue where it might get some traction).
For now, I’ve added ‘Stretching’ to both my watches and will (easily) make sure it will be the least used activity as a workaround to the problem.
