Suunto Race S general discussion

Anyone else in the pro club with Suunto and receive discounted prices?
I’ve just logged in to order a race S and it doesn’t have the discount applied but the normal race does. Just wondered if anyone knew why.
-
@Bexs2247 yes, it is known. Will get there, eventually.
-
@isazi weird because it did have the discount on there before as I had seen it but now it’s not.
-
@Bexs2247 yes, it was there before, it will be there again. Not today.

I have had two fail on me now in the space of 10 days. One with repeated 1403 errors and the replacement had major screen problems. Both have now gone back and I’ve had a refund.
Wont buy another one. Looking at all the issues on here the watch has clearly been launched to early and were doing beta testing for Suunto. -

Wont buy another one. Looking at all the issues on here the watch has clearly been launched to early and were doing beta testing for Suunto.The field testers did a LOT of beta testing. I am not aware of any of us having an issue. I bought my daughter a RaceS and it has not had a single issue. I am really sorry you had this issue and I find it highly unusual that two failed with you. However, the generalization that the watch was released too early and that you are beta testing is an opinion that I disagree with. My Race S has 1440 h of GPS recording and many more days than that of wearing without a serious issue.

@far-blue
First time I had only local maps loaded, but second time I didn’t load any extras in the Race S…I only changed two settings from the watch.
- Default heart rate zones (1,2,3,4,5)
- turned on 24/7 heart rate monitoring and nightly HRV
I haven’t got any issues with my older Suunto watches (Ambit 3 and Peak Pro). Those has been working just fine and are still working without issues…
I’m using my trusty Ambit 3 as my backup now, while the Race S is in repairs -
Hey!
how is battery performance for following use :
- AOD ON
- 10h of activity during week, with 8h GPS (multiband).
- Sleep tracking , daily HR ON, O2 OFF.

THANKS !

I can’t answer your question completely, but with the following key data:
AOD OFF, Backlight low
10h of activity during week, with 8h GPS (multiband).
Sleep tracking , daily HR ON, O2 ON, Messages ONI get about six days.
You also need to consider that you will need to charge with battery at 15 - 20%, depending on your training plans.
With a Vertical you can easily go out for a long training with 15%. With a Race S it will probably work as well, but I start to consider charging before the training.On the other side, charging on the Race S is really fast. So you will get a good gain by only charge it for 15 or 20 minutes.
-
@Stoke80 thank you.
Do you use the same screen setting for activates as for normal use? -
Depends on the activity.
Generally yes.
But for road cycling I have the backlight in medium and the AOD to ON, so I can see the data while having the watch on the handlebar.
Just regarding charging speed. This morning I got from 17% to 88% in not even 30 minutes. And I charged with the old, small apple 5W charger.

Hi guys, new Race S user here Jumped from Garmin boat and it’s quite interesting ride till now got a few questions regarding HR monitoring:
- Does all day tracking of HR counts towards any sport metric (training load, recovery)?
- If I turn it off will it work during sleep?
- From your experience is there significant battery gain when it’s turned off?
- The idle (background) readings of the HR are totally wrong. Right now when I’m just seating it’s constantly around 100bpm. Normally I have it around 50-60. Strange is that during activities it records it correctly.

Does anyone know the reason why the upper button in the map view does not stop/ pause the activity?
It seems the button does not have any functionality, so why not using it for the same purpose on every other screen? -
@lessthanmore that may be a bug, I would need to ask.
-
@isazi Thank you, please keep me posted.
-
@lessthanmore
@isazi
I think it is by intention because the upper button with non digital crown watches zooms in and out and from what I understand start/stop would be possible with data screens only… imagine alti graph uses the upper button for zoom, too and map and graph are somehow related IMO -
@freeheeler Thank you.
So, there should/ could be a possibility to add that “feature” for Race and Race S?
It’s a little annoying to switch screens before pausing and then have to toggle all screens before coming back to the map. -
@lessthanmore I asked Suunto to have the upper button used for crown watches too

No idea if it will change.
The top button is used in other screens and S+ apps in a different way anyway… -
@Egika Hope dies last
