Direct drive indoor trainer

Thanks for all replies, when I had ‘dumb’ trainer there was no problem, just connected to bike pod and I had all the data (except power) from back wheel. Now I connect my smart trainer via ANT+ to computer, and to S9B via Bluetooth, it is just the speed (and distance) data that I am missing (no back wheel). I suppose watch thinks that it will get speed/distance/cadence from bike pod, not from indoor trainer (paired as power pod). I have all the data just need to put it together somehow
-
@Likarnik can you connect the trainer both as power and bike pod?
-
@Likarnik I am using s9b for indoor cycling, but with ‘dumb’ Tacx trainer…and as you said ‘with no problem’…
-
@isazi sadly no, I tried, removed all paired devices, search for bike pod and indoor trainer was not found. When searching for power pod, trainer is found in second I don’t know how watch separate bike vs power pod…
@nseslija hehe, smarter the equpment, more problem. Now my wife (she got me the trainer) thinks that she got me a bad gift because of my data OCD
-
@Likarnik I measure power on my watch via ANT+ to BLE and the bike outputs power and cadence to Zwift to adjust the turbo resistance. Do get some connection dropouts but you cant connect the power meter to multiple devices unfortunately using BLE alone. Its why I am tempted by Garmin as they do ANT+ support on the Fenix. I didn’t like Garmin connect though as Movescount I thought was much better…

Hello all,
I’m in same situation as @Likarnik , I’ve a trainer Kickr Core with Suunto Ambit 2.
Ambit 2 is only ANT+, no BlueTooth function.I can paired the power meter of the trainer with Ambit2 but not the RPM and speed meter (named Bike POD for Suunto) comes from trainer too.
I have also a bike POD on my bike, the Ambit2 is able to paired the power meter of Kickr Core and also the Suunto bike POD on my bike (bike without rear wheel due to direct trainer), this configuration is working.
I also removed the Suunto bike POD of my bike and of the Ambit2, then try to paired only the RPM and speed of the Kickr Core (Bike POD on watch), but not possible !!I have also try the same scenario with Spartan watch (of my wife), this is the same situation, power meter is possible but not the RPM and speed (bike POD).
Spartan is working with BlueTooth only.Could you support me ??
Thanks a lot

Hello,
Nobody use a smart trainer with Sunto watch ?Thanks
-
@Dwartus I did try with my a Tacx Neo, does not work: neither With Ambit 2, Ambit 3 or S9 BARO. There is always some data missing (ether RPM or Power). I have used two other brands, they do work (V800 + Vantage, Fenix 6).
-
Hi,
I use Zwift, I gave up to use the Suunto connected to trainer, which is possible without a problem, but I want the data of zwift in Suunto app.
So I use Rungap app (iOS) to transfer the fit file to suunto app, now it transfers the fitfile with the info of ascend/descend and distance of zwift, which it didn’t math with the distances and ascend of the Suunto connected to the trainer, this is not a problem of Suunto, at this point the virtual cycling and running doesn’t get very well with watches. In some brands (in s7 you have an app for that) you can broadcasts your pulse but the distance and elevation never math.
Sometimes I want to track in the watch the hours so I use the ant+ to the trainer and the bluetooth connection to the Suunto watch, but later I delete the workout in suunto app and upload the fitfile.

@johann-fuehrer Thanks for your answer. In fact I use an Ambit2, I also have an Spartan (my wife).
With Ambit2 and Spartan, as you confirmed, I can’t received/paired the speed data from my smart trainer (Kickr Core). I can receive power data (by paire Power Pod) and receive RPM data (by paire Cadence POD). I tried to receive speed by using Bike POD, but not possible.
From my side I tried with Garmin 520+ of a friend, and magic it’s work very well (power, RPM and speed), I also can set the gearbox, in short it’s great !So, you confirm that is not possible with Suunto watch (either Ambit2, nor Spartan, nor Suunto9 Baro) to receive speed data from a smart trainer ??
I will read your topic link, thanks !!
@Bulkan I also can connect my Suunto to smart trainer, but not receive speed data. I want to have speed data (even if doesn’t match with the virtual ride due to descend speed and so on…), because I want to have a total distance of the activity in Suunto App. My real tracking is done on Suunto App (before on the perfect Movescount).
I will have a look on the Rungap app (iOS), does it exist also website ??
I’m thinking to buy Suunto9 Baro since 6montsh, but due to this “issue” compare to Garmin, and the end of Movescount, I will thnik again
Thank you

I have tried really hard for getting A2, A3 and S9B work, I did not make it for all data (Speed, Distance, Cadence, Power) on this watches. For Spartan I cannot tell as I had one but could not try with my trainer, as I sold it for the S9B.

@johann-fuehrer I have read your other topic.
Your smart trainer Tacx Neo is able to send Power, Cadence and Speed by Bluetooth ?Your S9Baro is able to catch Cadence and Speed from the Tacx Neo by using paire a « Bike POD » ?
Thanks
-
@Bulkan didn’t run gap fix those issues?
-
Hello Dimitrios,
Does Rungap has an issue to sync activity from Zwift to Suunto App ??
Thanks
-
@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos yes, all the issues are solved, even one where the temperature wrong. Now works pretty well. The “issue” is if you use zwift or any other app for virtual cycling right now there isn’t any watch which use the data of zwift (speed, ascend…) while you are riding. Is not and issue for me because I transfer the fitfile from training peaks to SuuntoApp with RunGap.
@Dwartus if you want a web service to summarize everything I recommend you quantied-slef, works pretty well and you can have all the data which is in the watches.

Yes. But no Power, although it is found as PowerPod when I attach search for devices, when starting the workout, no connection is made anymore… Same for A3. Seems to be a BT issue.
What I want is: Power, Speed, Cadence and Distance from the trainer. I was not able to configure this with any Suunto device (A2, A3, S9B) but even my old V800 makes it. And I’m not even talking about parallel connection to the computer for Zwift, Rouvy, Sufferfest or whatsoever! All other stuff was disabled, turned off and out of reach (needed for STRYD pod which can mess up your setting because of being on always )

@Bulkan thank you for information.
Does « Quantified self » can be use as Movescount was (history of activities, tags, training effect performed by FirstBeat or other (TSS as example) ?Do you have a short comparaison of rungap//quantifed self ?
Is it same functionnalities ?thanks
I created a new topic within Spartan regarding smart trainer and data sync not possible.
But lots of interest things on this topic, thanks to all !!!
Are you able to delete the new topic in Spartan group ? -

Are you able to delete the new topic in Spartan group ?Hello, I think for QS @Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos would be THE source of knowledge You will find out, why…
-
@johann-fuehrer I think a smart trainer (Tacx, Wahoo, …) will send Power, Cadence and Speed but not a distance, the distance will be calculate by device (watch or GPS), isn’t it ?
It’s really strange because the Wahoo Kickr core, send also Power, Cadence and Speed (receive by Wahoo app and Garmin), with A2 and Spartan I can’t receive Cadence and Speed, but Power is possible. And you is clearly the opposite…
Do you know if Suunto work on this issue ??
-
@Dwartus No idea if Suunto is seeing this even as an issue or is working on a fix. Distance could be calculated if a wheel size (virtual) is configureable for such trainers and the watch will do so. Never will be like in real live, but as a rough estimation it would be ok…
