Suunto 9 Baro - deteriorating battery life
-
@Joohlin Someone did suggest running the battery completely flat before charging it after the update but I think its a case of “more features less battery life”. I have been told that the battery life was not because of a big battery but from efficient use of power so I suspect that battery use during activities is unlikely to change but the first beat features will cause faster battery drainage.
-
@GingerBeardMan Thanks for the answer.
So one should expect to charge every three our four days from now on? -
My estimate is that with 24/7 hour battery tracking, standby backlight on, and syncing to SA the watch consumes about 1% of battery per hour, which is less than 5 days total. That isn’t counting any activities.
-
I did an experiment and got to five days with only a short activitity (without GPS), and still had battery for a sixth day left.

@isazi
I could imagine it is premature wear on @silentvoyager 's watch -

@isazi
I could imagine it is premature wear on @silentvoyager 's watchI doubt that. Until recently I was charging my watch only once every two weeks. I see a high consumption like that only when 24/7 monitoring is on and syncing to SA.
And you know what, I turned all features off last night when the watch battery was 51%. This morning after a run with GPS the battery is still 49% which means the background consumption was less than 1% for the entire night.
-
@silentvoyager
ok so you can at least exclude this.
I’m just draining my battery to recalibrate it amd then I’ll also go off for 24/7 HR again and see how this changes batterylife. -
@Joohlin Sorry for the late reply.
Pretty much, unless you disable the 24h tracking. -
Hi,
It seems that in the last time (probably after the last update), the battery of my watch (Suunto 9 Baro) drain faster.100% - 07.04. - 16:20
79% - 08.04. - 16:40
59% - 09.04. - 16:23
41% - 10.04. - 16:38
16% - 11.04. - 17:23
0% - 12.04. - 12:00
(No activity in this period)I brough this watch in November 2018, and at the beggining the battery leastead almost 7 days (without activities).
From the beggining until now I keep the same settings:Backlight Automatic
Standby - On
Brightness - 40%
24/7 tracking - On
Sleep tracking On
Notifications OnSo if any setting was changed, what is wrong?
Many thanks
Bogdan -
@Chindris-Bogdan battery consumption increased slightly after the fall 2019 update that brought body battery and other Firstbeat features.
-
Thank you for answer!
It’s possible maybe to have a better optimization of the battery with the new firstbeat features and maybe with other features that will come?Best,
Bogdan -
@Chindris-Bogdan we’ll see what future brings us. So far I am OK with charging my watch every calendar week, exercising every day.
Of course battery life is never enough for some of us, and if the watch could last for two weeks I probably would want three
-
-
And when it should be 1 week, in reality there are only 4 days and so on…I don’t want two weeks, three or four. It’s just annoying that from seven days now I’m at four.
Cheers
-
@Chindris-Bogdan 4 days without any exercise?
-
Yes, in this period it’s impossible to make exercises…
-
@Chindris-Bogdan well 4 days without any exercise seems too little. Have you tried a soft reset already?
-
Yes, I’ve tried, but with the same result.
From my older post, to see my settings:
