@Tami999 No MIPS again… Garmin releases with the new Fenix 9 Pro again 2 models with MIPS. hoped for this step too with the release from the new Suunto models. Why didnt suunto do this step, too!? I think many Outdoor enthusiasts would choose a new MIPS watch from suunto.

Most likely: because many on internet are very few on sales to pay off development, certification, support etc etc etc
Garmin has other size for sure .

        Suunto Race S | Ambit 3 Peak Sapphire | Kailash | Hammerhead Karoo 3

Not necessarily. I am a core user for Suunto watches (trail ultramarathon runner), and I specifically looked for a watch with high contrast AMOLED display. It works better for my needs and it has a battery life for most grueling ultramarathons.

MIP has some disadvantages compared to AMOLED - lower resolution, lower contrast, more thickness, which results in a bulkier watch. Plus, there are no round MIP displays in existence that are larger than 1.4" as far as I know.

@sky-runner the low resolution bothers me too, otherwise I would opt for one too.

Coros apex 4 46mm also only delivers 260x260 resolution

Personally I like their performance metrics and software and incremental improvements will be welcomed.

I think what I’m hoping for is better Race 3/3S design. Other competitors have clean modern designs like the Oppo Watch X3, Amazfit T-Rex range and Huawei GT line. Feeling elegant while performance focussed would be a win-win.

About design I actually don’t worry, Suunto got most beautiful sports watch 😁. I only wonder what new will Race 3 have since Race 2 was released year ago. Heard rumors only about AI Coach with subscription which completely don’t interest me, but if there will be more changes, especially big ones I’ll consider change.

@Tami999 while I honestly don’t know details about this AI coach thing, I still wonder how such a thing as a paid subscription could be part of a single watch firmware and not just hook onto the platform (aka Suunto App)…

@Egika do no underestimate the marketing and the sales department.

The Race 2 didn’t really add things over the Race 1 or S, just a better heart rate sensor and you could run 3 suunto+ apps during training.

If the Race 3 isn’t going to drastically introduce new capabilities, it all looks quite dead. I doubt many users are going to pay for an AI platform when the watch is already overpriced.

@brechtvb It does not look dead at all to me. Whoever wants to buy a sports watch, will look for the most recent model.
Next year Race 3 seems to be this: the most recent model. It can just replace Race 2 and will sell instead of this one.

Most users in this forum already own a Suunto. I don’t think that new models necessarily target users of Race 2. You get a little better specs here and there and have a most recent model. No need to change if you have a Suunto. But put current technology into you watches before they become outdated hardware wise.

And what I wanted to say with my previous post is, that a AI subscription in my point of view makes sense only independently from watch hardware. So that users with existing watches can benefit from it, as well as buyers of new models don’t necessarily need to invest in both at the same time.

While you mention overpriced: look at what Garmin wants for Fenix 9… This is what I call overpriced, compared to Suunto’s prices…

@Egika race 2 currently costs 500 euro on suunto.com while it cannot reliably connect to basic bluetooth sensors. That concludes on the overpricing.

we are discussing about Race 3 and Race3s in this thread and I understood you were referring to these watches as being overpriced.
Now you say you think that Race 2 is overpriced. This takes the discussion into a way that leads away from the topic…
What makes you think that Race 3 and 3s are overpriced?
