@safari Thanks. The charger is improved. But the video also reveals a decline in GPS accuracy, which is a shame.

        @Ars-Vitae
        I use vertical solar.
Yesterday, I did my first extreme camping trip since the last FW.
Even though I was on the road (steep mountain on my right, cliff on my left), they told me I was off-route 🙂 That was hilarious. There’s no other way, and this route was drawn with the Suunto app.
For reliability, I’ve also shared the route video and image.

@Ars-Vitae i have two activities only yet. Accuracy looks good. There are some few places where it is not 100% accurate but in most of track you can see clearly on which side of road i was riding/walking. I will see later when hiking under trees or some other harder conditions.
This is worst part i found on todays 16km ride.

Other than that it looks just fine. I see few other places where not exact but still very good.

@safari @Tomas5 Thanks guys:) I can live with that little inaccuracies on my SV but for the new one I expect something more.

Has anyone checked the discrepancies between the distances and elevations planned in the Suunto app and the actual distances and elevations recorded on the watch? They are noticeable on SV, I am curious how it looks in the case of the new device.

@Ars-Vitae Suunto App planned route distances and elevation gains (ascent values) have always been quite inaccurate for me compared to Race S and Race. Distances are typically 3-5% short. Ascent can easily be 10-20% off, typically on the low side but I’ve seen cases when estimated ascent was 15-20% more than actual. I am pretty sure the app map data is inaccurate and not the watches. The situation was similar when I owned Garmin by the way. However I should mention that when I plan a route in Strava, the estimated ascent is surprisingly accurate compared to Suunto or Garmin. I think that is because they improved their elevation data with data from real activities.

@sky-runner Thanks, you’re right, it’s hard to blame the watch for that, and now that I think about it, I have similarly good results with planning on Strava or Komoot, although the distance on the map is always shorter than in reality.

Please bring local music storage to the watch - plenty of room ion the watch itself, so hopefully this can be rolled out in a firmware update

@Ars-Vitae about GPS accuracy. I was on hike today. Lot of time under the trees. I would say accuracy is same as it was with Suunto 5 (UPDATE: after comparing to 5 Peak, accuracy is better). While slow hike route is zigzag a little bit, but nothing horrible. I would say not bad, but not impresive either. In best performance mode, see screenshots.

@Tomas5 This doesn’t look very accurate. But keep in mind that maps are simplified and not always accurate. A better method to see accuracy is to overlay the recorded path on top of the heatmap - this way you can see how your device recorded a path relative to all other devices. If the recorded path is in the middle of the heatmap path, that shows high accuracy. If it is offset to one side or outside of the heatmap path, that shows poor GPS accuracy.

You can see heatmap right in the Suunto App - you can turn on the heatmap layer. But if you are a Strava subscriber, that is even better because Strava builds heatmaps based on tracks from all devices and Suunto heatmaps are limited to only Suunto devices. Also, in Suunto heatmap paths are too wide compared to Strava, which makes it harder to assess the accuracy. But nevertheless, seeing how well recorded tracks are centered on the heatmap paths is a great indicator.

Here is one example - here you can see that the map is inaccurate compared to the heatmap in at least two places, but the track is reasonably well centered on the heatmap:

And here is for compare Suunto 5 Peak. Comparing side by side, Race 2 performance is better.IMG_0917.png IMG_0916.png IMG_0915.png

It was recorded as walk so heat map is different 😞

@sky-runner In my opinion, the heatmap is also created from these inaccurate routes. So it doesn´t have to be right.

@Jan-Suchánek Heatmap is created from a large number of activities so it gets averaged. That is especially true if you look at Strava where heatmaps include data from all brands, which would avoid systemic errors from one particular brand.

For someone who has both Race and Race 2: is the Race 2 more comfortable on the wrist? My Race has such sharp lugs that I need to place a piece of sticky tack putty on the back right lug of the case to keep it from cutting into my bony wrist (see pic). Is the Race 2 case different?

For me its so big difference. Lugs never bothered me, but I never feel 100% comfortable with Race 1 Titanium, no matter spot on hand. After ordered Race2 Titanium and put in on my hand I already knew it was worth exchange just for that small change. Its super comfortable as for 49mm watch (I using default strap). I instantly put my Race1 on sale and sold it (it was almost brand new!!! and lost just few dollars. With textile strap You’ll probably be even more comfortable and lighter, but i like silicone one, just wash it under water after exercise and fresh ready to go, using soap + brush every few days to clean it completly. With textile it takes smells and dirt much faster. I would say SO FAR Race2 dont have big differences compared to Race One except heart rate sensor (which i find is very good) and they did all small changes that i didnt like in race 1. More comfortable, crown is clicking (in race1 when dirt gets in or cleaning, it stopping), a bit better and bigger screen, better HR sensor like i mentioned, faster UI and maps. Its just , Race 1 Pro " feeling. Time will tell what new brings :).

@Bud_T If you want to keep Race 1 you can buy straps like this.
                                            strap from Temu
                                            Screenshot 2025-09-25 at 08.14.19.png

Or you can buy a NATO strap if you do not use the optical sensor.

Race 2 lugs are different. They are above the case back surface. They are smaller and rounded. I had Race 1 but sent it back due to rubbing issue. I had marks on my wrist and it was painful on the bike. Race 2 does not left marks just the optical sensor. When I put Race 1 onto a flat surface without strap it sat on the four lugs. Race S is better. The highest point of the case at the back is the optical sensor. Race 2 is better in this regard. No marks on my wrist from the lugs.
                                            Definitely worth the change.
