I think Suunto Run is meant to target the Chinese Market where it has different needs and requirements

I’m not so sure. Many of us don’t need high-end devices, and Run is perfect for this target market (e.g., my trail running group wears Run 😊 ).

@isazi Thanks for that info. Hopefully, the longer it takes them to release the SV2, the more substantial upgrade we’ll get eventually.
As per SR2 - awesome watch. I’ll decide if I’ll buy it after I buy the SV2 when it’s released.

@Hari-Seldon yes totally agree with that as well! Just wondering on why there’s a new platform being developed for the Run only and trying to connect the dots even though it’s a stretch 😬

@suzzlo @isazi it’s a pity, tbh for me this is the best feature 😄

@timecode it’s really a beautiful detail… but I will not replace my Race 1 with a new Race 2, just for this.

Everyone is saying that the Race 2, is prepared for the future, but usually the recommendation is not to by a watch by the possibility of new features, so I will wait until those new functionalities are implemented in teh new Race 2… and only then… replace the watch 😄

Well said. Maybe tomorrow I’ll be able to test Race 2 and decide if it’s worth to sell 1 and buy 2.

@raven My two cents: SR2 comes from the Finland team heritage. Is the latest of the S9, S9B, S9P, S9PP, SV and SR(s) line.
I agree that it seems Suunto Run looks from a totally different project, maybe starting from the China team.
If not, it doesn’t make sense to release Suunto Run a few months ago with OS v3 and now Suunto Race 2 with OS v2. It doesn’t make sense. Other than these are totally different teams and projects.

                  Moving forward, my take is:

                  • SV2 will also be on OS v2. SV2 is a SR2 with a MIP screen.
                  • SV2 was not released yet because of logistics issues, maybe not ready in quantity. Or just to have something new around Christmas time to promote. Remember, SR2 is now the flagship model, in terms of sales, because of the OLED screen, with SV2 being the niche. Launching both at same time and SR2 would have overshadow SV2 totally. Leave it for later and SV2 will have its own moment and love.

                  If/When SR2/SV2 will run OS v3?
I don’t think it will in the next 12/18 months. After that, who knows!
All depends on the real reasons behind OS v3. It was because it was from a totally different team? Or OS v3 is on a better, modern and more future proof technology platform for developers? If it is, OS v3 will win. However, maybe it will take so time to reach feature parity with v2 but when it does, boom, SR2/SV2 or SR3/SV3 will then run OS v3.

If OS v3 is due to a newer/better tech for developers, it will prevail and be the OS moving forward, 100% for sure. I’m saying this as being a Software Engineer myself.
If not, maybe Suunto Run will be a one off product, maybe a niche watch, targeting other markets or even be the foundation for a white label product to be sold by other labels of the group.

                  Again, just my 2 cents

@jjorgemoura I dont they will move SR2 from v2 to v3 OS… that’s tricky and can drive a lot of complains from the users.
If you release SV2 with OS v2, you should stay in that OS…

                    Just my opinion

@suzzlo It’s good to avoid situations like the one we had with Movescount – SuuntoApp.
Software upgradeV2-V3 should only be made when the new version is 100% ready to replace the older one.
For years, every new software has meant removing several very useful features.

@suzzlo same! And my Race 1 actually has character now. I like watches which look worn and have some scratches (scars 🙂) here and there!

I’m seriously tempted to send my Race S back and upgrade to the Race 2.

The policy says it can’t be used but has anyone worn their watch for a couple of weeks before returning it within the 30 day returns window (assuming it’s in pristine condition)?

@Steven-Hambleton Just because I am interested as a Race S owner: Why do you want to do that? Do you see advantages worth the 150€ premium?

Interesting watch, especially if OHR will finally work correctly. But it’s really strange from Suunto to not include a music player since they introduced it in the low-cost model. The price is a little bit high right now, but I hope it will drop to €399 with some discounts in the near future or Christmas discounts. Other than that, it looks great, even that AMOLED is not my favorite watch screen type, it looks great and with LTPO it should not impact battery as much. Definitely good direction from Suunto. I am little bit afraid of size compared to ny current S5. But soon i will look for replacement so i will consider this watch.

I can add my two cents.

Race 2 Titanium arrived today. I used it for test (can return within 90 days in my online shop, if no traces of use.
I tested it with my Race 1 strap. Watch less bounce on hand, probably becouse its just a little bit lighter (5g?) and smaller, also watch lugs are different + HR sensor is more flat?
Its not perfect, but very comfortable (probably most people will say its great). If You liked normal Race on Your hand -> You gonna love Race 2.
System is faster, but it already was fast enough in Race1 after many updates. People said crown is taken from Race S. I can’t confirm but its different than in Race 1. Iam not sure if i like it. It got different vibrate and feeling, more sliding, Race crown stop after every rotate. I used Race + Suunto Chest strap, which was very good combo. I tested Race 2 without HR strap and my average HR after 1h was like same as in last runs with Chest strap. I had identical calories burn also. Iam new in running world so can’t say statistics, but seems like got same results like with HR chest strap. I would say its perfect, but I need more tests to confirm that. I get used to chest strap, but i felt so good without it today. In my race 1(and vertical before) I had funny drops from 170~ HR to 40 “just-like-that”. It was annyoing and forced me to get chest strap.

Black design of Titanium is perfect, I wonder how scratches will shown over time. Race 1 is scratch-free visible becouse of its build. Race 2 Ti makes great combo with Race 1 charcoal strap (changed silver buckle & pin from different suunto original strap to make it darker) would add a photo but right now charging it, downloading maps from new charger! Its great, but honsetly i never had problem with it. I just make sure its charging and back after like 1.5h to plug off. Also new watchface is fantastic!

I decided to keep Race 2, my race 1 is already on sale, so price of Race 2 wont hurt that much. In my country after exchange its 714$ (exactly same price on official suunto.com after exchange). But in my country online shop i had also discount code so finally paid 642$. I’ll maybe get half of that money for Race Ti.

If You have Race 1 and chest strap, You can stay with that.
If You’re new Suunto user, You could consider Race 2. If You’re tech-guy like new technology & sport, go for Race 2.

Race 1 updates changed many things over time. Iam interested what will happen to Race 2.
