Accidental Dive Logged – Advice Needed
-
Re: Surface time will not turn off.
Hi,I was relaxing in the swimming pool when I picked up my daughter’s toy from the bottom (1.90 meters deep, took about 2 seconds). To my surprise, this resulted in a recorded dive and now I have 72 hours of surface time logged.
I tried various methods to cancel the “dive” but was unable to do so. Is there a recommended way to handle these kinds of situations? Do I really need to start a “mermaiding” exercise every time I briefly submerge in the pool?
It’s quite inconvenient to deal with this issue for such a short and shallow dive. I’d appreciate any advice or guidance you can provide.
Thank you in advance!
Best regards

@aquanaut it is in the manual:
you can set the starting depth for automatic dive start:

@Egika
I think this will not solve the Problem. Sure you can change the Settings, but as I know, the Maximum depth to start is 3 meter…
so if i „dive“ to the pool ground in 3.1 meter it will Auto start Diving and I cant „stop“ or „delete“ the „scuba Diving activity“.
There should be an Option to delet Logs like „the activity not deeper 5 meter and was not longer 2 minutes“, for example… also These „activitys“ are shown in the Diving statistic Widget and Fake the statisic. -
@tinten.addi it will solve it for the TO, who’s pool is 1.9m

@tinten.addi Yes, I read the manual before buying the watch—thanks for the advice. The maximum dive start depth is 2.0 m, so it seems it was enough to trigger the activity in my swimming pool.
Nevertheless, it’s pointless to argue over minor details. The real issue is that the software rightly prioritizes dive safety, which is good. However, in certain scenarios—like a “dive” lasting only 2 seconds—there should be an option to cancel the activity. I believe most Ocean users would agree on this.

@aquanaut
Exaclty my thoughtI agree 100%!
This „problem“ already had some posts in the past, thats why I think suunto should deal with it -
@Egika great conversation and helping answer. This makes us a Forum and Community big.

@tinten.addi Thanks for your support. While I’m still happy with the Suunto Ocean, I’ve read those threads before and I agree—Suunto doesn’t seem to be doing much to improve the user experience through software updates. I’m not sure if they even read this kind of feedback, but honestly, I was expecting a firmware update this summer that never came.
It’s a solid product, but the software implementation clearly needs more attention. Time will tell whether Suunto commits engineering resources to improve the overall experience, or if they’ll just focus on their best-selling watches.

@aquanaut
I am used to Suunto dive watches like mosquito or D4i but I don’t know how the Ocean software is working. Nevertheless when you wear a D4 or D6 for casual days and you swim, it is uncommon to trigger a scuba dive even if automatic detection is selected.
And if you want to free dive in a swimming pool or is open waters it is recommended to select the free dive mode to avoid triggering scuba and all the safety related to. And for a dive computer, safety is key.I am interested to get a Ocean in the future and I hope there is a feature that allows to deactivate scuba diving mode when you are just swimming, free diving.
