POI on watch map?
-
@Mff73 understand… thanks for testing… for my plans and then somehow useless for serious hikes… probably had too high expectations of an adventure watch…
-
@Mff73 pure disappointment… should I actually walk a “cross” instead of a waypoint to mark a point… any cheap etrex can do that… even without a map
-
@Mff73 not true. I have a POI (let’s always avoid to mix POIs and waypoints) that I use for testing in a park nearby, I just opened the map from the widget, scrolled to the east to see the park, and the POI is there, visualized on the map. I remember that in the past only 10 POIs would be visible on the “map” screen (that was not a map, just breadcrumbs), this may still be true, however if it is Suunto should be informed because the new watches are more capable and can handle more than 10 POIs.
-
@isazi True, POI is visible without navigation but can be very hard to see. There is no circle around the icon so when placed over the same background color, they just disappear
-
@isazi
True for me ( at least) and now, except if I missed something else.
Just retested after keeping only 9 POIs on watch, soft reset and sync :Without navigation to POI
With navigation to one POI
-
@Mff73 very strange, I tested it this morning
-
@isazi
truth or not truth, could we be sure not to be wrong ?In the theory where it should work, it would be more than nice to have more than 10 POIs (let say, all POIs the watch is containing, if not, it has no sense to guess which ones will be displayed or not and where).
In the theory where it doesn’t work for all, could it be called a bug ? Or another hypothesis linked to the POI creation/area concerned, etc… ?
If you have anything to test, i am ready

@Mff73 thanks for helping me in checking this, I now tried adding a POI outside my garden on my own watch, did not show up. Not sure if it needs time or anything else, or another sync. Then I tested the test watch, the one I grabbed this morning to check, did the same, and it worked immediately. So, must be something for next firmware I guess. I will also check if the limit is still 10 or more can be displayed. Stay tuned.

Put 12 POIs around here, all were visible on the widget map, so the 10 POIs limit seem to be a thing of the past.

@isazi Hello everyone, according to my experience, I don’t see any POIs that I set during a recording. … I start an activity, go to the map window and click on save location and select another icon… these location points are then not visible. maybe the dot would be visible if I started a navigation? But I just wanted to see that point on the map so I know how far I’m going. Is this application too specific? In my case, I would like to create several landmarks continuously during a recording. Danger spot, crossing, lake, cafe, and so on. without navigation ! I hope I could explain it better now… Thanks for your help

@Sascha-Domres I understand what you mean, and it is a great use case for a watch with a map. I just tested on my test Vertical (using next firmware) and it is possible. I saved a POI from the watch, and it was visible inside the map.
-
@isazi I’m glad to hear that in this context I also really hope that the scale will be increased. more than 500 m are important for orientation… There doesn’t have to be excessive detail to be seen… but pois outside the 500 m would be very useful. Also, when navigating, zooming out on the full track with my position would be very helpful… thanks for checking…
-
@Sascha-Domres I hope that the zoom out is improved too. I have requested this more than once. We’ll see what happens. Wanted you to know that this is a requested feature.

@isazi said in POI on watch map?:
so the 10 POIs limit seem to be a thing of the past.
Past for you , not for common users.
Let’s wait… -
@Brad_Olwin Thank you!

This seems effectively to be fixed with new FW : i see POIs on my watch in all modes.

I went on a multiday hike last week and I was really surprised to see that only the 15 first POI were displayed on the map. I think it is not enough for an adventure watch. I use POI to identify water sources, shelters, bivouac spot and several other information.
Suunto support confirmed to me today that max number of POI the watch can displayed on a map is 15 (even if the Vertical can store a lot more).
Does anybody here has insight about a possible increase of max number of POI that can be displayed on the map in the future?
Thanks! -
@Sascha-Domres you are right for it is useless for hiking planing - and for safty - i do not understand why suunto act like this
