      Re: Suunto Vertical: Bug Collection

I want to clarify things about the Suunto app + battery drainage. If someone from Suunto can respond or somebody with concrete experience…

Is the S+ drained more than the core usage of the battery?
Is having 2 S+ drains twice as much?
Is all.the S+ app drain the same? Like is the weather S+ drain the same as the ghost runner? For example?
Is a future update will fix the battery drainage with the S+ apps

In other words, is the way the apps are developed can impact the battery drainage? Bad code , bad usage of memory etc?
Is this something we can expect to be fixed in the future? Or it will just depend of the app , and whatnot does I guess?

Good news for me, since I stop using S+ , the battery is just as good as announced. But with S+, it is day and night. I almost drained my Vertical 90% to 0% in less than 17hours from my last ultra… And this is not acceptable for me. Or I will stop using S+ apps. The core features are more than enough for my usage, but this is a shame to not use the full potential of the watch and the community development.

      Any inputs?

I’ve got a similar observation but don’t know details. since you and I have the same experience, I think it is not extraordinary for you, but I didn’t expect it.
my experience is that not all apps drain the battery equally.
of course it is possible to use the watch without apps, but I appreciate the automatic hill climb laps and hence the avg lap ascent rate.
I will keep using and observing it. let’s hope for improvement 🤞

Yes, I guess it depends also on the metrics, the type of data the app is getting…

Is somebody has experience this also?

Is last staged update of segment is getting this point better?

          Thank you!

I love my new watch , I am just trying to make things even better! And I know it will!

Also, as the S+ drain they much battery, it should impact at list the battery left estimation in consequence. If the Suunto app cannot be managed better, it should impact this figure to let users know if he requires it or not before starting an ultra or a long course…

I gave exactly this feedback in a recent survey.
we all know that Suunto takes feeback serious and I’m sure they will look into it 👍

@freeheeler Yup! Currently investigating this and noticed this post. Logically, the S+ will drain different amounts of battery depending on the app (what kind of visuals are on screen, how complex calculations, how frequent update the app does) however just recently we noticed that only on Vertical the drain is anomalous, especially when using 2 S+ apps at the same time. S+ apps are quite new so we haven’t yet had a good way to estimate the drainage, since it also depends on the user. If S+ app has a lot of consuming visuals but user doesn’t keep the S+ screen active at all during exercise, that might have a smaller affect the drainage.

We are just now getting more into the battery usage of the apps. Even though many of the apps used in testing aren’t anything complex, there is still unnecessay drainage, which would suggest that the apps themselves aren’t the issue. 🤔

Rest easy, we are working on this 🧐

@NeaLuu thank you for your insight!

Yeah it will depend of the usage and the apps itself … In my case, the apps were note really used or displayed during my ultra. It seems actually tjwybit goes beyond of the apps itself, but more on their integration in the vertical…

@Antoine-Lancrenon I used one S+ GhostRunner, Maps and a Route for a 162k ultra. Battery life estimate was 52h and completed in 34h with no issues. For 1 S+ I think this is not far from specs for the watch. I have the solar version but there was very little sun during this race.

Any news about the suunto app abnormal battery drainage?

Can we hope to have something in future updates of the watch?

                        Thank you!!
