Suunto Vertical is here

@surfboomerang no one here here can make promises or predictions, but putting your money on June would not be a too bad decision imo.
It is currently being worked on.
…still unforeseeable events can can always happen… -
Sorry i question was already asked
To download a map in SV, watch need to be connected to Wifi, and maps selected in SA. All these task needs SA, thus the phone/tablet…Download will be triggered once SV will be on charger.
But, should SA and the phone need to be near the watch for ALL the downloads to happen, or all informations for all map download are send to the watch once and then watch is autonomous to download everything as long as on charger ?
Use case : you left home with your phone with you and SV is working alone for many Gb downloads
-
@Mff73 omg, not acceptable to leave home without SV!

as long as we accept to wait for map download , sometime no choice
[edit] or put SV on powerbank and connect it to cell phone wifi hotspot
-
@Mff73 no need to keep phone connected to the watch while downloading.
You select the maps using the app.
Then connect watch to charger within range of Wifi and leave the house with your phone.
Maps will load.You just get the convenience to check the download status on the phone while it is connected (and this might change in future as well)

@Egika
thanksI understand that wifi may consume lots of battery, thus having to put it on charge to ensure nothing will break due to battery.
But i can’t help thinking about “map updates” and not just initial download.
If battery life is so enormous, we may not put the watch on charger so often (for battery needs), but maps may not be updated until put on the charger ?OK, everything is still changing i guess.
other question (maybe no asnwer yet ) : map update = “just update” or “full redownload” ? Hoping it could be just updating “modified” map tiles
-
@Mff73 in a future update should be just the changed parts, but this is not implemented yet, so current solution is remove and download again.

understood and normal at this stage.
but, when should we know that an “update” is there ?
I mean, download is long enough (not critic) not to afford so often to delete maps to redownload them. Any kind of notification or hint that it is worth trying ? -
@Mff73 I don’t know, I think that if Suunto would do an overhaul of the maps will notify us some way. Transfers are also expensive for Suunto, so I believe they will work on smart updates soon enough.

IMHO even if a map gets update, zones are so large that it probably more unlikely that updates will really impact a lot.
So for me right now, getting updates is really not a big concern. Maps are already good enough

@Tieutieu
good enough isn’t good enoughMaps are collaborative : i just added three new official existing paths last week.
Wait and see how it will go But, i know that my personnal changes will be reflected next month for OpenAndroMap versions, that is this kind of info which is interesting.

I should also add some existing paths I know but I also like that some of them remain “un-excessivly used” !!

@Hristijan-Petreski I’d love to see a new strap with the colors of the Ukrainian flag.
-
@Highlands Than you need only light blue and can combine with the lime Contact suunto support for light blue (the old vertical if I remember correctly had smt similar) and ask it
-
@Hristijan-Petreski Contacting support is something I did some days ago. Let’s see what they’ll say. I wonder if any of you guys would buy a strap like this? Thank you.
-
@Highlands Well if you asked specifically for Ukranian flag than I am not sure how will the other side react since I never want to mix politics with my work, hobby and life generally. There are some really sensitive subjects that opiniate and alienate people which I generally try to avoid hence politics are out of my discussions. But if you asked for light blue (being creative ) you might get better results. Again I am all for peace everywhere but knowing human history and politicians this is something I guess will never be true!
-
@Highlands especially if part of the costs would go to humanitarian aid, than surely.
-
@Highlands nope

Hey folks, any insider info when the new silicone straps are going to be back in stock? I would like to get the orange one, but it’s sold out almost since the release day. Thnx
