SuuntoPlus sports app suggestions

@Brad_Olwin Suunto people really know how to tease users thanx for the hint.
-
I created a structured workout yesterday for the first time, it worked great and better than I had hoped it would be. Well done Suunto
-
@MiniForklift Yeah, it really works well but in my opinion there should be some improvements, like a counter, to know in which interval/repetition you are and some improvements in font sizes.
I like how intervals.icu shows the info in the watch but it is way more easy to plan the interval inside SA. -
Ghost runner
A choice of the pace the ghost shall hold. Up to now the pace of the first km is taken or the last manual measured lap.
It’s a bit of work to create some manual laps on the treadmill with a personal pace for the next run, which are taken as pace for the next ghost runner session.
-
@pilleus that requires a change in how the apps work, so far they have no set parameters. But it may happen if there’s enough support. I think Suunto has this on the drawing board.
-
@pilleus I think this is very important

I assume you found the SuuntoPlus Decouple, it should work on your current watch.
-
@Brad_Olwin Some good stuff in the SStore, was having a look this morning. Definitely a few things I will be trying out

SuuntoPlus Forks
I would like to suggest an S+ enchantment of navigation. The whole screen is taken up the arrow, of where to turn if close to a fork or straight forward arrow if far from a fork. On the bottom distance until the upcoming turn is shown.
Arrow structure:
Suppose there is a crossing with two incoming roads and two outgoing roads - then the arrow shown on the screen should highlight the road one comes from and point to the road one should proceed along, while greying out the other two.
Similar animations should be done for an arbitrary number of incoming/outgoing roads. The only probably is, how can s+ pull out information about crossings from a gpx file. Well, I’m not sure, but maybe SA can intentionally save a couple of gpx points on each crossing to feed them to S+.
It sure can also be done in a better way, just sharing ideas.

I wonder if the SuuntoPlus sports app could be the mechanism that would allow Concept2 PM5 to broadcast data to a Suunto watch (similar to what Coros does) then it can save the stats to SA??
-
@TonyG maybe, it already works similarly with a couple of sensors. But I suppose you need to reach out to Concept for them to use the API to create an S+ app.

I’ve posted a comment on the Concept2 Forums but not sure if its the right place to suggest.
I have noticed that Concept2 have their own SDK to make the connections to PM5 which most likely points to the onus to add a third party connection would be put onto those third party company’s, especially as it wouldn’t add / bring a great deal of additional business to concept2, being they are probably the sector (rowergs) leaders, on the other hand it may help Suunto attract more business to them if a connection was made. -
@TonyG ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Doubt suunto will make the first step, especially after just introducing s+ to 3d parties. But we’ll see, I have seen this request multiple times over the years and sure hope that rowing users can soon be satisfied. -
@DMytro I agree, there’s probably not enough incentive for either parties to commit resources too.
I think this is the type of connection that could in future be created by the user community if both ecosystems were opened up to consumers. -
@TonyG just try to make noise in Concept community as well, maybe contact their support or something. Eventually, one will give.
-
@TonyG definitely possible if Concept2 has a bluetooth connection and a known protocol to communicate with.
-
@isazi I believe it does; one has to have hope
I think this might be one of those connections the community could make if Suunto opens up the API to users and not just partners. I think it was kind of hinted that Suunto may allow this in the future; on the interview @TrailEyes posted up, unless i completely dreamed that one up!!
fingers crossed -
@TonyG I wonder if community could make such a sophisticated app anyways, one probably would need some API from concept as well.
And I also think that suunto might not release their s+ API to the users, rather there will be some simplistic graphical implementation in SA (hopefully this will be adapted well for ipads/desktops - can’t imagine doing this on the phone haha). -
@DMytro Yeah, Concept have a SDK available which probably has its own API imbedded.
I think the community could if there is a desire with the right folks; lots of examples of community minded developers; just look at what @Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos has created for the community with his fantastic software - the ability / capability is I believe definitely out there just takes the right person who’s invested enough to do it.
-
@TonyG I heard that it does support BLE, but have no time to investigate this further at the moment, nor I do have a Concept2 to test if it works. But people at Suunto may.
