New software update for S9P-S9B-S9-S5P-S5 and S3 devices 2.20.28

Thank you guys for the answers!
Probably I need to do a test lab again and redefine my HR zones. I did a test two to years ago and the V02max from the watch has been always quite similar, 1 or two points down max.
My doubts about the algorithm is because on Wednesday morning I did a trail running, not pushing, only pushed for 1 km (Strava segment ) and VO2max was more or less the the same than the day before (some tenths down) , at evening I did a hike and the VO2max kept the same value but yesterday I did, what I consider, a nicer trail run (same ascent, 30 seconds less per minute in pace and 7 bpm more in HR avg) and the VO2 went down by 0.7 points.
I guess is something related to the HR zones, but on the other hand I do not think my zones have changed that much in 1 month.

@cosme-costa
Did you check the zones setup in your watch after the FW update ?
Could it be that after the update of your watch, the zones were changed/resetted to other values that your real ones ? -
@mff73
I’ve checked mine and they remained the same after the updates -
@freeheeler
You, but maybe not @cosme-costa .
Just worth checking that this point is checked.
Last time I updated FW… I don’t remember with my SSU -
@mff73 I just have checked and like @freeheeler the zones are still the same.
If nothing changes, on Saturday and on Monday I want to do some trail runs with good ascent, will see how it behaves.
Thanks!!

side comment: I’ll propably do 1 or 2 runs in an area that I don’t know over the long weekend… I will rely on the navigation screen… it would be really nice to have the HR dial plus maybe 2 more values in the navi screen to avoid endless pressing of middle button, or living on the edge while running unlocked in order to swipe the screens…
#featurealreadysuggested…a hotfix would be nice

I agree with this suggestion but, because its has some buts, must be implemented very well. In my opinion the HR dial shouldn’t be a problem, but adding some fields must be implemented very well in order of not having problems with the navigation. I had a bike computer that has a similar navigation than the S9B and you are able to add two data fields in the screen navigation, the problem with it is that if you have consecutive close turns when the device is redrawing the route in the screen it gets covered by the datafields so at some point you don’t see well the route until you have some straight or more open route.
I use navigation quite often, and it is quite good as it is now, some things can be better, of course, but add features and do not touch what it is working properly right now.
BTW, I’ve said that would be good to have the HR ring in navigation screen but as I’ve written in other posts for me is not a big deal to have HR or not, I like to check the values afterwards but I nearly never train or race checking/limited by HR values.

@cosme-costa @Mff73 there are different zones for running and also for default sports, those ones were never counted, because VO2Max was only including running, right?
Regarding zones ring, they should be added, not only in navigation, last day was checking burnt S+ feature and I completely miss the zoned

For those that do not use the zone ring for HR we would not want it added to the Navigation screen as it uses valuable space. So there are those of us that do not want it.

@brad_olwin maybe a customizable option for custom sport modes then?
-
@brad_olwin
…then another old request: higher grade of customization?! …toggle for the HR dial?
or let’s agree on 2 values to add there: HR and ascent rate -
@freeheeler That would be even better! Last weekend I was running along a route never run (nor walked - all in an urban environment) before trying to stay in (power) zone 2, which was a bit of a challenge but would not have been if I could have activated the zone ring on the navigation screen. Maybe different types of navigation screens if customising a specific screen is too difficult/not in line with strategy etc?
-
@freeheeler that would solve it. Actually, I and a couple others have asked for NGP to be an intensity zone. If that happens I’ll be in your camp.
-
@brad_olwin
I started looking at NGP a bit more recently since I think it gives me a better idea (in relation to avg HR) than VO2max… but as you know, I’m a pure amateur -
observed today: ran a route today with navigation. it went down the same way as it went up. half way down the navi arrows showed correctly back home but the alti graph showed as if I was running backwards down again
-
@brad_olwin
I noticed today that NGP must be something that behaves similar as avg ascent rate would behave over the entire activity, is that possible? or am I completely wrong now?
avg ascent rate on a round trip would be 0m/h. NGP is to balance out ascending but also descending pace, right?
today my uphill was quite slow but I felt that my downhill was even slower as the risk of twisting ankles was relatively high.
in this case I found that overall NGP was pretty useless as I tried really hard while going uphills and in the end the NGP was something around 8:42min/km…
would you recommend to separate up and downhill in 2 activities when it becomes technical?
thanks for your input
…I know it’s not the perfect thread for it… but we somehow started this topic in here -
Hi all, i have just noticed that during the Suunto9B watch update the app requested a total reset of the watch…so now i still have the trainings history in the app, but lost everything in the watch… also the sport profiles and logs…Is this something normal ?
Thanks -
@argo320
yes, full reset means factory reset and after that everything is gone and can’t be synced back. that’s what’s normal.
what’s not normal is the watch asking for this.
check the next time if it happens again.
I’ve never had this issue.
One trick that I’ve recently learned to avoid unwanted behavior seems to restart your laptop after Suunto Link has been updated and before you update your watch -
@freeheeler thanks for the tip

Well, I think that VO2max, at least for me, is not working well with Trail Running. On Saturday I run 20.1 km with +1048 m, 6.06/km pace and avg HR 156 ( 23% Z5, 56% Z4 and 18% Z3) and my VO2max 55.5, then on Monday I did 20.86 km +989 m, 5.59/km pace and avg HR 152 (15% Z5, 51% Z4 and 28% Z3) and VO2max went down to 54.3, so 1.2 less for what I consider quite similar conditions.
My VO2max was fluctuating around 58.5 normally before the firmware update, which is quite accurate with my last lab test (59.9). The new values are really going against my feelings and times/pace.
