I recently switched from the Suunto 9 peak which i used in parallel with a Apple Watch Ultra (AWU), which I still own, to the Suunto Vertical.
My experience with the Suunto Vertical is quite positive - it’s well-constructed, has an appealing design that suits my taste, and is extremely comfortable to wear (despite it’s larger size).

Here are my personal observations, which others might agree or disagree with:

Sports Tracking: The Suunto Vertical really excels in sports tracking - at least for what I do. I find it more intuitive to use during running and training sessions than the AWU and definitely much better than 9 Peak. The user interface is user-friendly and smooth, although claimed of not being exceptionally fast, I haven’t noticed any significant lag or delay.
Map Functionality: While the map isn’t as detailed or visually appealing due to lower pixel density compared to AWU, it’s more than sufficient for my needs.
Smart Features: The smart functionalities are very well implemented and was a highlight for me. Receiving notifications, controlling media, and the ‘find my phone’ feature are all very efficient. It’s less intrusive compared to the AWU.
Design and Comfort: The design of the Suunto Vertical makes it more suitable for casual wear. I opted for the Ti Solar version, which is notably lightweight, and feels more comfortable than my AWU(especially with its ocean band).
NFC Payments: The absence of NFC payment functionality is a downside, but since I usually carry my phone during runs or hikes, it’s not a significant issue for me.
Durability: The watch feels sturdier and better constructed than the AWU.
Accuracy: In terms of tracking accuracy, it’s comparable to the AWU, with no specific issues to note.
Optical Heart Rate (oHR): The oHR performance despite what i read here… in my case seems similar to that of the AWU, both during activity and at rest. I use a chest strap typically but on the first 3-4 runs was pretty much OK.
Suunto App: The app is a standout feature for me, offering clean and informative displays of data, statistics, and graphs.

While I’m not an elite athlete, the data and features of the Suunto Vertical seem perfectly tailored to my needs. I hope this review is helpful to others considering this device

How do you find the legibility of the display (compared to the S9P) when running? The small display (on my S9PP) makes life difficult, and I wondered if the Vertical was an improvement here?

I’m also coming from S9P to SV and the screen plays in another league.
1.4" vs 1.2" and brighter screen.

It’s a bit early to judge but so far so good

About battery consumption, since SV was released last may, you can find tons of feedbacks. Even if a few settings can lead to a « higher » consumption (notifications, multiple apps…), one word can resume it : it’s just ridiculous !
It’s simple : that’s the first watch ever which I never remember when was the last time I recharged it !

                    Suunto’s devices at home :
                    Vertical titanium solar
                    Suunto Race S

The battery life is pretty epic, especially the solar model. If I’m honest I can’t say I ever noticed much by way of the solar, well that was until last week. Charged it to full on Wednesday morning then ran on Thursday morning for 2 hours using maps, which took it down to 97%. That afternoon I had an hour and a half drive to get back home and with the sunlight hitting it went back up to 100%, When I checked it the following day it was still on 100% 👍

For me I reckon I could easily get close to a month before I would be close to running it completely flat; FWIW I probably average around 60km/week of running plus at least a couple of walks
