One of the criticisms of the Vertical when it first came out was that navigation around the UI didn’t seem entirely intuitive with the buttons. I guess this is a 3-button vs 5-button thing. But the new menu ui has landed now so I’m curious to know whether there’s a difference in how menu navigation feels or whether the new menu ui is more focused on the Race’s crown dial and touch rather than buttons.

@far-blue I find it leaner/cleaner with the new UI/Menus. Takes a little getting used to but good here.

I think you just end up getting used to what you have to hand, but I have to say I do like this latest update to the UI. The widgets and their accessibility is much better and overall everything just seems to flow better and feels more intuitive to me

@far-blue I like the new menu a lot. Usability is in my case much better than the original carousel menu. I would’t switch back 🙂

The new UI seems to be getting overall positive response 🙂 Anyone compared how it feels using the 3 buttons on the Vertical compared to the Crown on the Race? I’m just curious whether people think the new ui is designed more around the crown or whether it works well with the buttons. Partly because I’m unsure about the crown and am tempted to go for the vertical over the race due to the crown (I’m left handed so the crown seems like it could be a hassle and rub on my sleeve cuff) and also partly because it might hint to whether Suunto plan more watches in future with the crown 🙂

The new UI is fine, IMO. For me, the inconsistencies are mostly in the map (and this has not changed from previous firmware) - for instance, not having the top button pause the activity. But I am not sure what a good solution might be.

One suggestion I have for button orientation during a workout would be to use the top and bottom buttons for navigating pages up and down. Right now the middle button is being used and one has to cycle through all workout pages which seems rather inefficient. This way, the middle button can then be a lap button and a long-press of the middle button can then pause or stop the workout. Kinda similar to Polar but ofcourse Polar has a 5-button layout in most of their products.
