Disappointing Sleep tracking after new update
-
@Mff73 part of beeing a beta-tester ?

Maybe not the best thread to ask : I’m wondering about « 14 days hrv range calibration » (must be recorded among the past 60 days).
I’m not sleeping well last days (lot of work, partying unusually…). And days to come won’t be better.
First days of hrv since SV update give « low » values (32 average).
My question is : is hrv range set one time for all after those first 14 days, or is the range always evolving ?
Suunto’s hrv website talks about hrv day comparison with past 7 days, and that 14 mesures amont 60 days are needed for setting the range, but it is not clear if range will also evolved.
Sorry if it was discussed yet, didn’t manage to find answer to that question. -
@Tieutieu my understandig is that this is a “rolling” number over time. So I think in the long term the HRV will stabilize and it should not be a concern if you are in bade shape now
-
@Stefan-Kersting ok thanks. Let’s see how it will move. It shouldn’t be hard to verify considering my really poor shape those days !

First days of hrv since SV update give « low » values (32 average).
The absolute value is different for each person. Generally it will be high (100+) for young people and low (30-) for old people. But there are also young people with values about 40 and old people with values about 80.
If you follow the measurement and readings of your personal values you will receive an average over the time. This value is important for you. Becoming lower will show you too much effort in your training or an upcoming cold or something else.
The more consistent the values are during the night, the lower the average will be in the morning. Large differences indicate a better condition of the heart, as the variability between individual beats is higher.
The measurement in the night is shown as an average in the morning, shown on the watch (Vertical and Race) and in SA. Regarding the values (still missing in SA) all over the night, there are great differences.
Here an example of an detailled measurement of the last night (it is working on any fitbit or WearOS watch) … it’s an outdated project of the Ludwig-Maximilian-University in Munich, in which I was involved as a test person.

@pilleus Also to add this is not so correlated with how athletic you are.
Its more about how the sympathetic / parasympathetic system works (and which one more).
Additionally a sudden high value of hrv is suspicious if out of the blue and means that the parasympathetic system is trying to recover you , ie you broke a bone for example
-
@tomasbartko Are you planning to keep your Whoop or will you rely on Suunto’s HRV and sleep tracking?

Yes, this is the most important thing about HRV … fight or flight vs rest and digest …
-
@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos about HRV readings and sleep tracking,I did a post 4 days ago on the race and no one gives me some insights, I’m a night shift worker and despite the fact I program my sleep schedule between 8 am until 3 pm with not disturb on,the watch record always the sleep as a nap and don’t give me HRV readings during the sleep. I have a Garmin forerunner 955 and Fênix 7 solar and they record the time as sleep and record my HRV. I’m trying to understand if the Suunto development team as aware of this behaviour and If they plan to do something about that, otherwise night shift workers don’t will have benefits of that metrics
-
@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos I enable DND manually every night before I go to sleep and turn it off shortly after I wake up. I don’t use automatic DND because sleep times.
-
@Patrick-Löffler-0 I will return it, it’s too expensive and the data is pretty much in line with SV now. I wanted to try if it can help to improve sleep (I’ve had some issues) but the benefit is not big for me + I am not a hardcore athlete so there’s no point in keeping it. It’s still a pretty good device and it can do a lot, the OHR accuracy is stunning, but it’s not worth it for me personally.

@BrunoH hard reset is a last resort for me.
Funnily haven’t had a stand up reminder since the update, tried not to move while watching movie for 125 minutes… didn’t help -
@peegee I did the reset and I haven’t received any messages about walking over 10000 steps or burning a zillion calories. I guess they’ll fix it some day. I know there are worse problems than this.
-
Have same problem. Watch only show 3 hours, when in reality it was more than 7 hours.
-
@BrunoH steps and calories I get after every workout from before update.
Just don’t get the new time to stand notification… not that I really need it but nevertheless it would be nice to see all works well -

Sleep tracking lost all accuracy after the update here too. The last three days read 12h, 2:23h, and 1:19h, while it should’ve read something like 5:30h, 7h, and 5:30h. It’s not just slightly off and balancing out; it is very far off.
Updating this with more testing done: Soft reset, hard reset, and turning off things like DND or HRV all had no effect. However, I noticed that the HR graph has a bunch of significant gaps (30m to 2h+) throughout the day despite having the watch firmly secured.
So I checked. This time, I fell asleep close to 22:00, with SV stating it was 00:36. The HR graph shows a 2-hour+ gap from before 22:00 to roughly 0:30, so that seems to add up. Again, I secured the watch so that the sensor would be properly against the skin throughout the night, and these gaps exist throughout the day. I’m not sure why the HR is so inconsistently tracked right now, but I will keep a closer eye on it.
-
I did the hard reset yesterday (Sunnto support told me to do), because after the update I didn’t get those message from the watch (Step goal, caloroes goal, weekly summary).
Will see today if it helped, but your comment doesn’t make me very optimistic.
-
Also having issues with sleep tracking, dnd and stand reminder on.
Step tracking is on 150 steps before Ive even gotten up in morning and not been up during the night either!
-
@Stoke80 I did get the storm alert today. We are getting 20cm of snow tonight.
-
@BrunoH
I did receive a storm alert on the weekend as well. They seem to work. But the others still don‘t work sfter the hard reset. That is abit annoying, although not one of the big issues.
But maybe one of the mods can report this to Suunto for the next fix?
