S9PP battery life. How's yours?
-
My first suunto watch is Ambit 3 Peak. Like it very much. It still can work pretty well.
But without heart rate sensor, it’s really not so convenient nowadays. -
@alfredzhong unfortunately similar story here, I was describing in a different thread linked below. From my discharge on rest days I expect the watch to only last around 10 days with 24/7 HR and notifications, and not the originally advertised 21 days on the previous firmware.
-
@Umer-Javed It happens before the latest firmware update or not, i hope it’s just the firmware problem. Or it is really a problem.
-
I’m a new Suunto user for a couple of months and promptly upgraded it after purchase, so I can’t say how it was before, but it certainly doesn’t last as long as advertised. I’ve read that with the last firmware the HR is being monitored more frequently now (1s?) than before and this is undoubtedly one of the reasons although I can’t quantify how much it drains. I charge mine every 10 days or so with a 20/30% of residual charge. BTW only HR enabled, no sleep, no SpO2 and at least 1h of daily indoor/outdoor activity.
-
@ultravox Yes, i noticed the hr sensor green light is on all day. But i learned that from the DC rainmaker, he said the S9PP captures the hr data every 10 mins. Which confuses me.
Maybe it’s really the hr capture frequency problem. As for me, the original 10min frequency is just OK for me. I don’t care much about hr while resting.
Maybe it’s better to let user choose the hr capture frequency. High or low. -
@alfredzhong 10 minutes was before now should be 1s if I’m not mistaken of course… and I’ve also read somewhere in the posts that the HR graph should be tweaked accordingly. For me 1s makes sense if you are interested to monitor HR during the day or sleep.

Found this. The community manager described this in detail.
Will try it. -
@alfredzhong I pre-ordered the 9PP October 2022 and it’s been a great partner, I’ve worn in practically 24/7 all this time. I have certainly noticed a sharp drop in battery life (given how often I have to charge it) since the new update and I am aware other forum users echo that too. Maybe something happened to my watch, I can’t say. I’ve already tried the resets and “calibration” that you shared.
So I’m hoping this will be dealt with in a future firmware update if this is a widespread issue. I hope for you that maybe something is wrong with my watch and that yours will work well after you follow those steps.
-
@Umer-Javed Thank you for sharing. Hoping it’s just a firmware issue and will be resolved.
-
@alfredzhong Already read and it’s something I do with my gears but I think it’s not my case, I don’t see any “strange” drops… and anyway charge it every 10 or so days it’s not a big deal. Hope anyway the issue, if any, has been addressed by devs.
-
@Umer-Javed I also observe reduced battery life on mine as well. I charge it every 7-8 days. Not on my wrist during sleep. For example, I recharged it last week on Tuesday to 100%. Last night it had 12% left and put it on the charger. Prior to last sw update the battery was much better with the same activities and used to be on my wrist 24/7.

My first suunto watch is Ambit 3 Peak
Nice watch, I read a lot of praise for it and was going to buy it – but I chose the 9PP.
-
On the last FW they added continuous HR monitoring, before that was I guess every 20mins. Now HR sensor works all the time. That is probably the culprit of increased battery usage
-
@alfredzhong I get between 7 and 10 days, depending on activities. For workouts lasting more than two hours, I typically get an estimated 38 - 39 hours of battery time on performance mode, more than 70 on endurance (calculated from workout battery usage per hour).
I’ve never seen more battery being used while using two S+ apps, but it was reported here that it might be the case (of up to 30% more, I think?).
Try killing the watch by getting the battery down to 0% and then to 100% and see if it helps.
Also, you don’t have full backlight active 24/7?
-
@Łukasz-Szmigiel Yep, no backlight at all (even backlight at raise wrist is off. I find it annoying). And i don’t use S+ apps.

Wearing S9PP for about one month. The battery seems to become considerable. It can last about 2 weeks now, with about 3 ~ 4 hours cycling per week.
It met my expectations. I’ve got no complaint about it.
Now looking forward for the firmware update this month. -
@alfredzhong What matters to me is GPS tracking time, I don’t care if I have to charge once a week or every other week. I did a recent 100 mile (162k) ultra with the 9PP and at 34h (yes I was slow) I still had battery life left. I used the watch on Performance mode with a route loaded. Quite happy with that. This was on a pre-release version of the firmware that will be coming.
