SV Solar - Estimated Battery Times
-
Curious what everyone with the solar addition gets for estimated battery times when they fire up a GPS based activity.
Pulled mine off the charger and immediately went for a run but am only seeing 60hr estimate. Curious if Suunto just doesn’t bake in potential solar input or if I’m seeing an issue.

@stromdiddily as far as I know, Suunto doesn’t take the solar as a parameter in the estimate because it’s unpredictable, so what you see is a lower bound for battery life.

Copy, thanks @isazi .
Do you happen to know if Dimi is still running the quantified self app? I get errors now every time I try to log in. Know that he had a battery consumption metric but am not aware of any other app that tracks it.

@stromdiddily Suunto (as far as I know) does not store battery info in the Fit file, but it stores it in the native format they use (some kind fo JSON). So you need these files (Android saves them on tour phone storage) and you can compute the battery consumption yourself. I did some battery tests and solar seem to improve things, when sunny, and it is possible to see that the amount of time between two discrete battery levels gets longer with more solar available.

@isazi
during exciting days like these I run out of thumbs ups…
I wanted to confirm the extended battery with solar. saw the numbers in consumption myself, too. also charging by sun in watch mode -
@isazi Solar is definitely helping but the watch is very demanding regarding the angle it points towards the sun. It needs a pretty direct pointing to the sun to get the best result.
I got the best results during windsurfing on a sunny day. Battery drain was approximately 1% per hour with all bells and whistles enabled.

@stromdiddily you can try this to calculate battery estimates. Keep in mind that the longer the workout, the better the approximation will be (~90 minutes minimum).

I also have run out of upvotes
Thanks @Łukasz-Szmigiel will give it a go
