What do you expect from the next update?
-
@GiPFELKiND maps are not related to watch firmware. I would like to see some improvements in maps too, like, besides contour lines, some names of the sumits and cities/towns
-
@cosme-costa ah okay, thanks for this Info. Didnt know this
-
@Todd-Danielczyk So, essentially is Suunto a Chinese company now?
-
@2b2bff off topic but yes, since 2019.
-
@Mountain Yes, but the previous owner let all R&D and all manufacturing happen in Finland, which was very very cool (and one of the main reason I bought a Suunto watch), but Suunto was bleeding money every year.
Nowadays, you have almost none of the Manufacturing (well, there is a few model, but pretty low volume), and less and less R&D.

@cosme-costa yes suunto know about the Problem. Thats rightโฆ But suunto also know about the missing contour lines in the bavarian alps. Over 500m zoomlevel. More than 16 month. Until today No solution.
How long we have to wait?! How long YOU will wait? Let it be to make new Firmware --> correct the old one first and all known bugsโฆ But if the 3.xxxxxx Firmware from the Suunto ow234 RUN will come
we will have more bugs again
I am pretty sure you are checking the maps update for your region frequently but around one month ago, I think it was in December, there was maps update (at least for Sweden) where I got much more detailed contour lines. Have you checked it since? There were no publications/dedicated threads about that on this forum if I recall correctly.
-
@rooldaa yes i checked it. There is no Maps update for Germany ๐ฅด
-
@rooldaa Thereโs this post and thread: https://forum.suunto.com/post/159216, wherein Sweden was the latest.

Iโd expect the next update to focus on enhancing climbing features and sleep analysis, given the high vote counts for Suunto โClimbProโ and Complete sleep analysis. Itโd be great to see more customizable options too, like a HR-watch face.
-
Iโd expect the next update to bring some of the features from the Run to the other devices. I suspect track runs, post-activity heart rate recovery analysis and possibly better audio feedback. Iโd also hope to see some bug fixes and some minor improvements to sleep tracking and swim tracking. Also maybe some minor tweaks to the new turn-by-turn nav stuff. I was hoping for improvements to workout above/below range alerts but given the Run is a different platform I think maybe not in this update.
-
Basically, there are areas for improvement:
-
better sleep measurement data, especially for naps - preferably on the watch, not just in the app (letโs not be slaves to our smartphones),
-
more detailed data on recovery and health outside of training,
-
detection of disease and infection based on a range of real-time parameters,
-
the ability to add any field to the map screen, e.g., heart rate or distance to the nearest peak,
-
more than 3 views with activity data: currently, only 3 views on watch and 1 view with a map can be defined,
-
bug fixes and frequent updates,
-
quick release of new models with improved HR sensors for Vertical and Ocean.
-
-
Tide watch, like the old casioโs
-
I would like to see the activity counter for last 7 days from the app available as a complication on the watch.
Personally I find the rolling total more helpful/motivating than the weekly reset to zero. -

- quick release of new models with improved HR sensors for Vertical and Ocean.
Since like 2 updates HR is crap. I used Vertical, now Race for month+ and on both my HR drops so much from 160-170 to 50 HR (I have 60 when sleeping lol). Mostly of time using HR Chest Strap.
-
Whenโs the next release estimated to be? Iโm guessing late June, early July, maybe?
-
I would Like to See the multiple Bluetooth Sensor Management System that the Suunto run got.
-
Yes, me too.
-
- Current slope degree value available to use in customized views.
Suunto Race S: - On map: any indicator that can help to be back again on route when off.
- Current slope degree value available to use in customized views.

I have notes I took before on this subject.
They are still valid.
The solar energy complication is only available on one or two watch faces. It needs to be improved.
More complication optionsThe variety of watch faces needs to be increased. There needs to be better graphics and interface visuals. As I always say, I should be able to access a lot of data the moment I raise my arm. And these should be real-time.
The weather forecast should be at least 3 days old. The need for a watch should be reduced as much as possible. We can camp in places without network reception.
The wind speed should be km/h in the weather.
He should not say good morning when he tosses and turns while sleeping.
He should give a warning when the pulse exceeds a certain value and suggest that we rest. (this is very important)
The refresh time of the complications on the main screen should be real-time. -
I think it is already too late to suggest improvements for the next update. Whatever will be there is likely already at the final stages of testing.
But in general I am looking forward further improvements in such core features as offline maps, navigation, tracking of on-route waypoints, turn guidance, and elevation guidance. Every single of the above needs further improvements. I cold probably make a separate long post about each of these areas - what is lacking in each of these areas for me as a trail runner and how it can be improved.
My first priority would be to make trails more visible on the map when zooming out. In the current implementation trails become very thin, borderline invisible, at 0.5 km/mile zoom level and completely disappear at 1 km/mile zoom level. Suunto already has heatmap data. Perhaps Suunto could find a way to use that to determine which trails are more popular and should be prioritized on the map when the map is zoomed out.
Perhaps the second priority would be to make elevation data more accurate. When I plan routes in Suunto App, the total elevation gain is routinely up to 20% under of what is actually measured by the watch when I complete the route. That is especially bad on a rolling hills terrain, but even in big mountains with large climbs, elevation gain is almost always at least 10% less than actual. That also affects climb guidance for individual climbs because it is based on the same flawed low accuracy data.
Also, it would be really awesome to enable Suunto App to store maps offline and to allow making a new route and transfer to the watch while in activity in wilderness without having data on the phone. That would be a powerful feature that would, to a large degree, alleviate inability to route on the watch. It should already be possible to transfer new routes to the watch on the fly, but that currently requires having mobile data on the phone, which makes it much less useful for many of us.
