GPS Lock and Offset
-
I have recently been experiencing some longer than usual duration for my vertical to lock onto a GPS signal which has pretty much always resulted in a decent GPS drift (ie on my route just shows me running through houses).
It’s to the point where I’m tying my shoes outside, warming up, checking the mail, etc waiting for my GPS to lock and then giving it an additional minute or two after it finally does. I’ve confirmed my AGPS is updating so not sure what else to do.
Anyone else seeing similar results?

@stromdiddily hello, do you mind if you can share some screenshots on your gps tracker

was happening to me as well, cutting thru neighbourhoods and streets. Also noticed this always happens at the start of the run/walk and then is ok. Also noticed when I paused the walk and got a coffee, after resuming the walk it cut thru the street and then was ok. Wonder if there is a glitch in initially locking into satellites with the watch.

Like this one?
GPS was locked THEN I proceeded to tie my shoes and do my warm up before starting.

@stromdiddily
did this happen once or did you notice this behaviour more often? -

@stromdiddily no, didn’t happen to me, and it sounds strange that it just started to happen to you now. I guess you already tried with a reboot
If this becomes a constant let us know, with logs and everything. Sony is baking GPS firmwares often recently, and the Vertical will get an update with next firmware release. -

Today on the same route, I had absolutely perfect tracks so hopefully just a one off!

Sony is baking GPS firmwares often recently, and the Vertical will get an update with next firmware release. This is quite predictable now whenever I run in a new area. First run in Mexico on vacation had pretty significant offset and a long-ish time to acquire signal. First run back home, same deal.
Both times I made sure to sync with the app to get updated AGPS and wait a good 30 seconds or so after GPS signal acquisition to start the activity.
I am willing to bet good money that my run tomorrow from the same location will lock before I can tie my shoes and have no such offset.

@stromdiddily for what it is worth: I had a huge GPS drift last two days here in the neighborhood. I have never seen this in years. Rebooted the watch and hopefully it will be gone next activity.
-
No issues for me in the past few days, but next update will also have GPS firmware updates.
-
@isazi The contours were good, but the whole track was displaced.
-
@surfboomerang I have only seen that happen with wrong (not as not updated, but wrong) AGPS data.
-
@isazi only time I have seen this was indeed with the huge Sony AGPS issue 1-2 years ago. Hopefully the reboot worked for the next activity
-
Run yesterday had a good 20m offset as youve reported, for first 10 mins.

@stromdiddily This is odd, I travel a reasonable amount and this does not happen to me. For example on my last race I had not used the Vertical in quite some time. I charged it for the race and started off. The last time I used the Vertical was a week before near my home. Here is the beginning of the Race located 800km away from home. I have not seen this when traveling.

That’s what has me thinking there might be something up with mine. Folks are raving about the accuracy and if this was a common occurrence, someone else would have brought it up (5k, dc, etc)
